President Barack Obama signed a short-term funding extension on Saturday hours after Democrats and Republicans narrowly averted a partial shutdown of the federal government by agreeing on the measure and a budget deal.

The new funding extension, which cuts spending by $2 billion, will last through next Friday, April 15.

The Senate immediately passed the extension on a voice vote. The House of Representatives followed suit early Saturday morning.

Administration and congressional officials made clear that there would be no lapses in government funding.

In his weekly address Saturday, the president explained that the agreement meant that small businesses can get the loans they need, families can get the mortgages they applied for, "folks can visit our national parks and museums" and paychecks, including those for the military, will be delivered on time.[/p]

Looks like the government has finally managed to agree on something.

Eh, I'll find a better image or just get rid of it. Spent like, six seconds going after an image.

It doesn't really affect anything unless you're a non-essential government employee, and they might not even save money overall.

Obama is a f***ing idiot just like every other money grubbing politician. All of these Govt big wigs need to take a hefty pay cut, that's what will help more than laying off the real workforce who don't make 1/100th of what the fat cats who sit on their a$$ do! America needs a radical transfer of power to the working class people and we need to say no to corporate greed and corrupt politicians!

Ignore the fact that Obama is the son of a goat herder!
    Ignore the fact that he's a self-made-man!
We need a REAL working class American in office!!

Also... Obama fits the "don't make 1/100th of what the fat cats who sit on their a$$ do!" bill... He's one of the "poorest" presidents with a net worth of $5 million.

14 Presidents had a worth of less than $5 million, 3 had a worth of ~$5 Million.
Both Bushes had $20m or more.

Its what happens when only one candidate gathers most of the attention. And it wasn't made known to me his "birth certificate" was out. I'll look into it, thanks for the links...

EDIT: The article evens says the document could be a fake, still looking at it skeptically. BUT I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, and wait until its official.

No, I've looked into it before. You know what I got? Pages and pages of BULLSHIT and black-power related sites. No respectable news source has commented on it and there's been no news story on it except some possible bullshit document from 7 HOURS AGO.

38 Billion isn't all that much when you compare to the enormous amount of accumulated debt this country is in, but it was probably the best we could get when it comes to cutting deficit spending.

They could start cutting military spending.

Because, you know, $600 billion is appropriate for a non-aggressive, anti-imperialist power.

You....you can't be that ignorant. Seriously, nobody is that ignorant. I've met super republicans who aren't that ignorant. No respectable news source should have to comment on his birth certificate, as no respectable person should ever question it.

This thread is full of ad-hominem. Argue about ideas, not people. (btw I'm not an Obama supporter - even if he wasn't born in the USA there isn't a gosh darn thing that you can do about it.)

You, along with brain-dead republicans, made the ASSUMPTION that Obama was anti-gun.
There were tons of people saying "Buy guns now 'cuz Obama's gonna take 'em away!!", despite the fact that he never said ANYTHING related to that at all.

As for the 'caving time and time again', rock and a hard place.
If he stand up to them, he's called socialist and fascist and anti-American.
If he gives in to them, then he's weak and spineless and corporatist.
    FLAG PIN! FLAG PIN!!!
