Where do i find TWLMBR.bin and TWLMBR.bin.sha? I can't even find them everywhere!
I own a New 3DS XL.
I tried ALL of the methods, but my TWL Firm is still broken...
These include:
  • TWLFix-CFW
  • NVRAM restore
  • Deleting purple titles on FBI
  • Installing the N3DS TWL CIA
  • After each method, i also do a system update.
But i need the download link for twlmbr.bin and twlmbr.bin.sha for TWL Fix (gm9 script)
Does someone has a download link for that?

HEY LOOK! IT'S THE CREATOR OF CTRTransfer D9!
Anyways, i'll check to find TWLMBR.bin here. Thanks!

I'm sorry, but i can't seem to find the TWLMBR.bin file...

A copy or download link for the twlmbr.bin won't be found here on GBAtemp.

However, you can try to repair the 3DS firmware + custom firmware with CTRTransfer (Type D9) - CTRTransfer. Carefully read and follow the Instructions.

The script takes care of correcting the twlmbr.bin partition table found in the n3DSXL's [S:] SYSNAND VIRTUAL.

After completing all steps 1–17 from the Instructions and the DS(i) mode still doesn't work, refer back to the link in post #2. Follow along reading that thread to learn how mintcc (Deleted User) fixed his softbricked nvram.

In case nothing fixes this bricked DS(i) mode, your n3DSXL may be like one of these examples.

After it says "write 00000000" on nvram tool I go to ds download play and it shows a black screen

I know I double posted, duh

But the DS download play is staying on black screen until I force turn off my n3dsxl.
I tried to reset it first on CTRTransfer D9.

I tried to reset it first on CTRTransfer D9.

Verify that the n3DSXL is running under SysNAND.

1. Turn on the n3DSXL → hold (SELECT) → Luma3DS v10.2.1 configuration → use these exact settings → press (START).

luma3ds_v10-1-3-png.214219

2. HOME Menu System Settings. Look for the Sys 11.14.0-46E.
  • If the Sys string is not visible or you see Emu, return to step 1.
    • ( ) Autoboot EmuNAND (if visible)
    • (x) Show NAND or user string in System Settings
Try a (temporary) factory reset. This should revert the NVRAM to a default state while retaining the user profile.

3. Turn off the n3DSXL.
4. Turn on the n3DSXL → hold (START) → Luma3DS chainloader

5. GodMode9[1:] SYSNAND CTRNAND → hold the (R)-shoulder button and press (X) on data folder. Rename this to data2.
  • :!: Be careful. Pressing only the (X) button brings up delete option. Do not delete!
6. Press (START) to exit. The n3DSXL should now boot with the new user setup. Do not make a profile. Turn off the n3DSXL and go back to GodMode9.

7. [1:] SYSNAND CTRNAND → press (X) to delete the dummy data folder. Rename data2 back to data.

Install an example DSiWare title such as 3DSBank v1.1 or GameYob v0.5.2.

8. FBISD → { 3DSBank.cia / gameyob.cia } → Install CIA
Check if the DS(i) mode works by launching the reference title.

9. HOME Menu → { 3DSBank / GameYob } → Open

You mean, Don't go to the language section?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

1. My SD Card does not have an EmuNAND.
2. Every DSiWare CIA, even Game Yob fails to install because "Doesn't exist / Failed to open" 0xC8804478
3. I also tried the GodMode9 data method. Does that mean you need to try DS Download Play?

If you saw the language selection in the new user setup, that means you can turn off the n3DSXL and go back to the GodMode9.

1. My SD Card does not have an EmuNAND.
I asked this to double check. Except for DS flashcarts and DS game carts, DS(i) mode doesn't work under EmuNAND.

2. Every DSiWare CIA, even Game Yob fails to install because "Doesn't exist / Failed to open" 0xC8804478
That's not a good sign at all.

That 0xC8804478 error where FBI fails to install CIAs may indicate the microSD card is faulty or fake.
Have you hardware tested the μSD card yet, like this?
  1. Copy everything off the SD card to a computer.
  2. Quadruple reformat.
  3. Full Write + Verify the empty card in H2testw. Do not skip.

Do you happen to have [ another / spare / second ] (micro)SD card? We can use this 2nd card to test against the 1st card when figuring out whether the the CIA installation failure is due to a bad card or something wrong with the n3DSXL itself.

3. I also tried the GodMode9 data method. Does that mean you need to try DS Download Play?
At this moment, leave out DS Download Play when testing the DS(i) mode. Stick to 3DSBank or GameYob.

If you have a retail DSiWare game CIA such as The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition or authentic NDS game carts, you can try launching and playing those too.

I used CTRTransfer D9 with 11.5.0, and it worked. Then i update to 11.14.0-46.
I can install DSiWares now, (i tried GameYob) but i can't boot them. This screen shows up:

I need the answer! Look at the picture...
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Reflashing the 3DS firmware with either standard CTRTransfer or alternative CTRTransfer (Type D9) will break the DS(i) mode. This happens because of a mismatch in database records between the replacement title.db & import.db in the [1:] SYSNAND CTRNAND and the TWL system titles & DSiWare games found in the [2:] SYSNAND TWLN.

***

If you already tried to fix the DS(i) mode by doing this,
, or by installing the replacement TWL system CIAs found at,
, followed by system updating again to reinstall or update to their latest versions,
  • System SettingsOther SystemsSystem Update
, on top of wiping the NVRAM back to a clean state,
, then your n3DSXL is like the examples listed in post #4.

Where to go from here?
  • (1) Buy a replacement n3DSXL motherboard to swap out. Look on Aliexpress, eBay, Amazon, and ZedLabz to name a few online retailers.
  • (2) Sell that n3DSXL to someone else who wants it to gut for spare parts or as-is.
  • (3) Buy another 2DS/3DS system.
  • (4) If money is tight, play 3DS and DS games on Citra, NO$GBA, DeSmuMe, and/or MelonDS emulators.

Close this thread! I made TWL working by using TWL Fix CFW after CTRTransfer Type D9!!!
