Hacking [Tutorial] How to update Emunand on a N3DS

Do you need to delete sysnand?
Doing so broke cold boot and menuhax on the sysnand.

I deleted it only for emunand then got it working

I did it for both since i was unsure but i believe what you did was the proper one

O3DS can update emunand via system settings, at least to the latest of 10.3
N3DS has problem past 9.5, hence the need for tutorial

navigate to "Nintendo 3DS" folder and delete your theme folder corresponding to https://3dbrew.org/wiki/Extdata for sysnand and emunand, then reinstall them accordingly

I don't have the theme folder (it should be named 0000165c isn't it ?), is this normal ?

That home menu theme layout, something different. Ignore that.

You want the line that says home menu theme
For U, it 000002cd. Look up the rest if you are Eur or J

Jeez so many people having problems I feel bad for you guys. If you have a 3DS or N3DS on 9.0-9.2 this tut would work perfectly but you all more than likely downgraded and are struggling.

Got my N3DS downgraded from 10.3 to run an 9.5 eluNAND !

I had downgraded from 10.3 and managed to upgrade to 9.5 by deleting the theme folders in the ext folder of the sd as indicated previously. You may want to edit your original post with this solution for us downgraders

Everyone seems to have their own "method" for instance the person above suggests deleting extdata folders while you say to remove menuhax. I cant be wrong about the info I give, since I read every post i've read 5 different "methods" people have tried with mixed results.

If they had menuhax in Emunand, they would not even be able to boot into emunand to begin with...they just need to delete the theme folder from the extdata folder of their emunand and it will be golden.
If they delete the theme folder from the sysnand, yes it will delete menuhax and they will have to reinstall it.

I doubt deleting menuhax from sysnand would affect the update of emunand though.

Technically, that extadata folder also remove menuhax since the theme are reset. It just different method of removing menuhax.

Somehow, I was able to boot into emuNAND when I apparently had menuhax.
Then had the black screen upgrade problem.

Ez pz went from 9.1 to 9.5 on my N3DSLL Japan.
Just deleted the 000400102002CA00.cia that was alos deleted on the downgrade.
