I know this is an old thread but I wanted to update for people since many links for skins are dead on the web. I actually found an easier way to make skins.
I have an ace3ds plus and acekard skins are compatible so I am able to use them.
I used only the acekard skin editor and windows paint program.
My daughter wanted a monster high theme so I went to google images and searched for monster high pics.
I pressed print screen on the image results on google.
I did not click on the picture because I knew it would redirect me to a website and the picture would be huge.
I found a lower screen and upper screen pic I wanted.
I then pasted the screen shot on to windows paint and cropped it. Then resized from there. When you resize....the bottom of the paint program tells you the measurements. 256width x 192height.
I saved it as 24 bit bmp.
I then went into acekard skin editor and made the skin.
I used the pics I got and the text and everything else I was able to edit on acekard skin editor.
I saved the skin into a folder called monster high on my desktop. The program saves it as its suppose to. For example, Lower screen, upper screen.
then I copy and pasted the folder into rpg/ui/monster high in my sd card.
This is the result.
My first skin.
