This may seem like something uninteresting, but recently a .cia of a Japan-exclusive PC-Engine Virtual Console game was uploaded on that iso site, and not long after, someone figured out how to inject PC-Engine/TG16 games into the Virtual Console!

Features:
- Changable screen-size (You can choose between fullscreen, 1:1, or aspect ratio within the VC itself)
- Remappable buttons
- Restore Points

Limitations:
- VC Menu is in Japanese
- PC-Engine game size must match the size of the original game. Smaller games can be injected by padding the ROM with FFs to match the size of the original game, but games bigger than R-Type (the largest PC-Engine VC available and the one that has been uploaded) can not be injected.

BTW thanks for that!
I'll be injecting the latest translation of Rondo of Blood for sure. :)

Isn't there a way to decrypt the CIA and maybe translate the menu until we get a good USA CIA for PC-16?

For N3DS users, I did a comparison and Retroarch ran the game much better in my opinion.

But this is pretty cool for O3DS though.

A little late. But actually very cool! We already have the Retroarch PC-Engine emulator. But this is still interesting! I will try it for sure :)

Which game? :P

We may have the Retroarch emulator, but last time I tried it, it ran slowly on my O3DS, so those without access to an N3DS could use VC injection instead.

Actually, smaller games can be injected even without padding.
Not sure if someone would worry about saving few kilobytes though.

I'm afraid we'll never get USA cia, since PC Engine VC games were released only in Japan.
I can say that western release was probably planned, because that game has banners for other regions.
Looks like they changed their mind. And even in Japan there are only 4 PCE VC games released.

Anyway, even with limitations that official emulator surely is a great option for O3DS users.
I have only O3DS myself and Retroarch won't work very well for me.
But now I can play almost all PCE games I wanted to try (full speed)! :yay3ds:

I figured out the format of the pce.pkg file that contains the rom, and successfully rebuilt it with a 1MB rom (Bomberman '94 of course). Haven't sorted out the banner etc yet, but will share the .cia at the other place and write up how it works when I have some time. I don't know if there are roms bigger than 1MB, but I'd guess this should work with any size of cartridge dump, tho I wouldn't expect it to work with CD games as that's a totally different access method.

Thanks, I tested some other 1MB games and they works fine now!
There's only one PCE rom which is bigger than 1MB - "Street Fighter II' - Champion Edition" (2.5MB).
It kind of works with edits for 1MB (has horrible glitches) and I can't find value to make it work properly.
By the way, this emulator can't run some USA region locked roms (it's possible to convert them to jap format).
Also, it looks like SuperGrafx specific games won't work at all.
