Greetings all!
Starting to read up on gba emulation. I have IPS modded GBA's but have been wanting something with a little bigger screen that retains portability while still allowing me to pull my saves back to the Original Cartridge if I need a smaller package.
Hoping to clarify some things.

1. DS lite, need flash cart to pull off save file, are any better/more reliable than others?
1.5 - need software to pull save file
2. Need device for emulator. Have a Switch, could be nice to play on TV, heard PS Vita looks really good w/ slightly smaller screen and would have to find/buy one. Also A/B and X/O I heard are reversed? Mostly care about upping the screen res appropriately so it doesn't have the same visual issues as DS games on 3DS.
3. Need emulator, mGBA seems to work on both?
4. Need custom firmware for whatever device it is going to be played on. Is this permanent and can it be reversed if I sell it?

(WHY NINTENDO DID YOU NOT PUT GBA COMPATIBILITY IN DSI XL?!)

Hello. Based on my experience I strongly recommend you to play gba games (via original cartridge or flashcart in the second slot) on DS phat, or even better on DS lite (4 degrees of brightness).
In this case we are not dealing with emulation software (not always reliable and satisfactory), but with original, full gba compatibility.
As a flashcart, the chinese one is also fine, very cheap; in my family we have 2 of these, and never had any problems. Mine is just a suggestion. Look at the photos to judge the result. The gba flashcart (slot 2) is launched via ysmenu from DS flashcart (slot 1).

What consoles do you have that are jailbroken?
If none, you can emulate using a PC or your phone.
I don't think I have understood correctly. The question is addressed to me or to whom opened this thread?
Are you asking me what console it is and if it is an hacked one? It is a normal DS Lite with a DS flashcart and a gba flashcart inserted. I repeat that these GBA games in pictures are launched via ysmenu (a DS software) with frame/background image.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150

Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
