I was following the guide on wiiu.hacks.guide and when I went to download the latest release of WUP Installer GX2 my Windows Defender flagged it as Trojan:Script/Oneeva.A!ml and refused to let me download it. Does anyone know why this happened or if the download has actually been compromised? Is it safe?

Thanks :)

The wii u homebrew wup installer has helped thousands of users for years now.
it appears that you may have tried to download something called 'wup installer GX2' which may not have been what it appears?
without information on where you acquired this file it is impossible to say for certain.
always get your files from a reliable and trusted source

lol you shouldn't be using Windows Defender.
Was this just a random error then due to bad software? id heard Windows Defender was generally good enough on a modern computer but if it's worth getting a better Antivirus I will

Free antivirus out there is still better than Windows Defenders, its definition ain't great that why it flagging stuffs when they are not suppose to be flagged, Im on a computer that use Avast business security and it doesn't flagged it as trojan.

heres backups of what I use on my WiiU
use wupinstaller (homebrew) with the HBL for installs, or even
to install wup_installer_gx2 (which is a channel)
:)

Yea makes sense. I'll look into Avast or maybe paying for something more reliable :)

Contacted Microsoft, notified them of false positive and WUP Installer GX2 has been analyzed & marked as safe. Just need latest scanner files.

TBH I rather have completely free scanner that errs on the side of caution, than nag/adware like Avast...
