i got triiforce running fine,

it loads all vc games, but when it comes to wiiware only 1 in 5 works all the others come up with the black screen stating an error has occured,
i tried them from both sd and hdd

the full error message says

an error has occurred.
Press the Eject Button, remove the
game disc, and turn off the power to the
console. PLease read the wii operations

compatability is waaaaaay higher than that, but your "generic error message" could mean a lot of different things so I can't give you a definitive answer. My advise to fix that (which works 90% of the time) would be to do these thing...

Make sure you have cIOS Rev14/15 installed, redump a clean NAND structure (read below about my clean_nand.bin) and re-install the wads again. Don't skip a step or you might miss something. This error can be quite a few different things including missing content from a shared folder or corrupt files etc.

There are a lot of know bugs that affect triiforce that are not triiforces fault. Here are the most popular ones that cause problems....

You never used Showmiiwads OR wadmanager 1.5 to install the wads, other tools don't work correctly. You never installed a PROPER wad, your wad was patched in some way. Your nand dump is a mess.

Now I REALLY want people to read this next bit.... I have 3 Wiis so have done a lot of testing of various things including triiforce that I got 2 seconds after it was first released. I've had a LOT of problems with it myself in the early days BUT now I get almost NO errors on one of my Wiis with any game.

This Wii has had this done to it (in short). It was COMPLETELY cleaned (virgin + format), updated to 4.2 and then a nand dump done using bootmii (not Simple FS, or FS dumper or any other tool). So understand it had NOTHING on it when the nand.bin was made (no preloader, cIOS etc). I call that file ...clean_nand.bin. I unencrypted that nand dump to use on triiforce, it is around 170mb in size, remember that as I explain a little more.

I then went ! mEnTaL ! with that Wii installing all sorts of things (cIOS Rev14, Hermes, etc), many other things are test builds of things so really fooked that Wii up, w000000t. This is NOT important.

Now for using triiforce this Wii ALWAYS sticks to a couple of simple rules. 1- I only install "PROPER" .wads, yeah I install injects etc too, but if it's an official game then I make sure it's a "PROPER" and not patched in anyway at all, also I use my own region (or don't complain). 2- I ONLY (very important) use good wad installers to install, so not wad2nand but showmiiwads or wadmanager 1.5. 3- I don't "experiment" with clean_nand.bin

Following these simple rules I find it hard to find a game that doesn't work. So when someone posts in this thread or the official triiforce thread I myself, and I'm sure WiiPower don't know what their problems are cause from sometimes, as many have dirty nand dumps, bad (patched) wads, used a "bad wad installer" and other things to consider.

If you have lets say 80% games running without bugs, then imho you've done most things right. If you get lower compatability then you have some problem that imo is not related directly to triiforce.

Hope that clears some things up a bit.

Now on a positive note

One of my copies of clean_nand.bin I experiment with might soon reboot to the REAL sys menu from the "HOME BUTTON" menu on Wiiware&VC games

It might even be possible for it to reboot to triiforce, but that's not my main concern. btw thanks giantpune for some ideas

Could you please tell me what program you used to unencrypt your NAND? I'm starting to think all my Triiforce woes are somehow linked to my SFSD NAND dump. Also, do you know of any 'legal' wad or scene release name that you are 100% certain works perfectly, so I can rule out bad WADs as well.

Cheers

Sorry I'm at work and a bit too busy to be tidy, but here's a quick copy and paste of changing nand.bin to nand folders......

As for a release group I'm not 100% sure.. oneup ??

In this guide you want to...

1 - Download the apps
THEN (my quick edit to make instructions small)
1 - dump nand with bootmii, you will get "nand.bin"
2 - run nand-aes-dump.exe and it should extract your AES key from your nand.bin into a file called nand-key.bin
3 - proceed by opening the cmd.lnk and a command prompt should pop up
4 - in command prompt type --> "NAND-bin2raw.exe nand.bin nand_dec.bin" (without quotes) and press enter
it should start the decrypting process and you should now have 2 bin files: and encrypted and decrypted nand dump.
5 - now comes to final part : extracting all data from bin!
now type in that command prompt "zestig.exe nand-key.bin nand_dec.bin nand" (without quotes) and press enter.
it should have decrypted everything and placed it into a new folder called nand.

*ALSO* easier way ---> http://sites.google.com/site/parannoyedwii...-nand-extractor

Have you been able to get Swords & Soldiers to work using Triiforce? So far that is the only game that hasn't worked for me, and I used SFSD to get my NAND files and wad2nand to install all of my wads.

I myself don't have that game, but I wont offer help for anyone using wad2nand to install the .wads, sorry. It's getting boring telling people not to use this app as it is know to cause problems.

Well then I will test your method and if I notice any improvement in game compatibility, I will update my guide on Wiihacks or at the least, offer it as an alternative method for dumping a nand and installing games. It seems odd that I would be a rare exception having good game compatibility so far.

i used 'simple fs dumper' to dump my nand and a computer program names wad2nand to get the wads into the nand form
like i said all vc games works its the wiiware one's i'm struggling with
i know the wads aint bugged because i installed one of the ones which didn't work 'in triiforce' onto the system menu itself and it worked there

i might patch ios70 with trucha so i can load them onto the sd through the system menu and use triiforce for vc games

i also tested the wiiware games with the original triiforce and same errors

Well I tried out Slim's method described above (using my clean nand before any hacking was done) and there was no difference in compatibility compared to the SimpleFSDumper nand and Wad2Nand installation method (Swords and soldiers still does not work. I tried it with 2 different wads). The only difference I saw was that the nand ripped using Slim's described method was larger than the SimpleFSDumper method and contained more files that SimpleFsDumper does not take, for instance, the 00000001 and 00010008 in the ticket and title folders. It still does not work on an SDHC card either.

So far, it looks like wad2nand was not the problem after all and the game appears to not be compatible.

Swords & Soldiers doesn't work because of what I believe is a character issue with the savefile. The game freezes when it tries to create the save. Both Lost Winds games has the same problem (the savefile has @ in the name). I can't find a savefile to confirm that it's the same with S&S thou.

Yeah this is a know bug, if a file has characters that are not allowed in a FAT FileSystem, then obviouly you can't have they files on a FAT FS. I think this can be handled per game from the apps side though, but I don't think it is a priority. Some games might have these characters \ /:*?"| also a file can't end in .

My "method" for the nand backup is just the way to ensure you don't fook anything up, it's VERY simple (for n00bs), not only do I have my "clean_nand.bin" I also have an "empty_nand.bin" that is only a couple of mb and has high compatability too, but some games don't work with this, so there is no point in posting how to get a really small nand dump for now, until much more games are tested and I can figure out what games are looking for what files (it's a bit odd I'm finding out).

I will say this about experimenting with your NAND dump, make sure you have bootmii on boot2 and a nand backup because I've had a lot of strange errors like... wiimotes losing sync on real menu (by removing certain external nand files), system corrupt messages (from editing some files), wii boots to black screen ( adding some altered files ) and some other "strange bugs".

If you do have bootmii on boot2 and a nand.bin, then by all means knock yourself out with experimenting

That's good to know. Would it be wrong to update the triiforce game compatibility list with any games that I find have a similar issue?

Slimm: I have multiple SD cards that I use with my Wii, one of which is dedicated to WiiWare only. Since it is only a 2GB SD card, having as small a nand as possible proves to be beneficial. I would be interested to see just how minimal your empty_nand is.

With luck, triiforce will work from an SDHC card in the future, and the size of the nand on the card will be more or less irrelevant.

It's only a couple of mb, but throws some errors with some games, sometimes these errors cause REALLY bad problems and I need to restore my nand backup which is a pain in the ass. I wont post what I've done or left on it because people will blame me for things going wrong, and some will misread what I've said so it's best not to post about it really.

If I get time soon I'll send you some info by pm, but some games still cause bugs that no matter how you exit (power down, exit to loader etc) still cause BAD problems.

Actually, you can use ShowMiiWads to "empty" your external NAND. Mine was 270MB and I reduce it to 35MB cleaning ALL the titles that ShowMiiWads found in my dumped USB NAND
cool.gif
!

And yes, it could be great to apply REAL NAND (internal memory) for games dumped in SD or USB devices.

See ya!

Yeah that's an easy safe way to get it smaller.

Using ShowMiiWads 1.2...
Delete all IOS, channels. You can also safely manually delete all Wii Disc saves.

35mb is massive though compared to the smallest you can get it, but seriously 35mb is nothing on any SD/USB

i had a little experiment,
i dumped a clean nand using bootmii, after the dump is completed i extracted the dump and then i deleted every title and ticket except the ones which are ios (the folders which have 00000001 are the ios ones) related, then i uploaded the dump on my hdd overrighting my existing dump and now

9/10 wiiware works now (that is lot better compatability then before) and i no longer receive that general error message, so i fixed it myself and my VC games which worked were not affected

so i am happy now

edit:
using the comp program wad2nad works perfect with triiforce, so that is what i use before and after i fixed up my problems
