Translation and ROM hacking in general works much the same regardless of the system you are doing it on. Formats change, and optical media/newer cartridges make use of file systems (as opposed to ramming it all together without any immediately obvious rhyme or reason like in older stuff) which opens up a few doors and closes a few others (or at least changes how things play out).

Find something to pull apart the game into its component files. Should just be a basic iso handler unlike some other systems, though there are tools if you are playing with pkg files.

Once there text can come as text, or it can come as graphics, and you might end up playing with some graphics if the game can not display characters you want (Japanese games tend to have just Japanese, and maybe a very limited English alphabet).
You then get to find it (file names, extensions, directory names, file sizes, magic stamps, relative search though that is not so good for Japanese, corruption, comparing regional releases... right up to full bore tracing) and figure out how it works, and possible how to expand it (both size and abilities) if you need that.

Hi I’m wanting to translate Initial D ps3 into English. Any help on where to start? I understand this isn’t a quick or easy process
Personally I've helped on some translation projects, and I can tell you that the process will take months, if not years to realize. Depending on how big the game is, and how far you want to take the project.. Translating scripts, editing/creating new images, fixing game breaking bugs.

So yea... its not a quick or easy process.. very rarely do the scripts come in unencrypted text format, in most cases it's just 1 big file you have to unpack... then repack for testing.

The challenge is identifying if the assets are encrypted, compressed by proprietary development tools. Unless you have programming knowledge/skills, this is most likely a hard stop for you. Check the file headers for any clues on the filetype (I use hex editors), you can try searching the internet and see if there are pre-existing tools/scripts that can decrypt/uncompress these files to a readable format. Try looking in https://forum.xentax.com/ , I usually check there first to see if there's already a script out there for this game or for another game that uses the same or similar file format. You can also post a sample file, and someone may help create a script for you, but that's if someone is willing to help.
