Hardware Transfer Wii data (on Wii U) to USB stick, SD card or original Wii

Dear forum members,


I wondered if it was possible to transfer the saved data from my Wii games (which are now on my Wii U after a system transfer) to a USB stick, SD card or back to my old Wii. I was planning to sell my Wii U, but because Wii was a part of my childhood I want to keep that data.

I hope it's not too hard to get it right. I have no experience hacking a system if necessary, so I hope you give me a step-by-step plan in that case …

It depends on what data you want to copy:

• Wii Data Management allows copying some saves to SD by default.
• For some games (as far as I know those that had online functions like Mario Kart) it refuses to copy the saves.
• There is no official way of getting paid games from the Wii Shop Channel back to a Wii console once moved to a Wii U.
• I have no idea about the Mii Channel – but I think Miis can be copied to a Wii remote.

For getting all data out of the vWii modding is most likely necessary.

I’m not really into Wii U modding – especially my vWii mode is unmodified and describing all steps goes to far here anyway. In general there are two methods to get the HackMiiInstaller started in Wii mode of a Wii U:

• wuphax – requires homebrew access on the Wii U first
• disc based exploit – requires an original exploitable Wii game disc and an SD ≤ 2GB (not SDHC or SDXC).

I recommend not to do the complete Wii U modding – especially NOT install cold boot Haxchi (CBHC) if you are going to sell the Wii U. Starting the HB Launcher with the browser exploit and wuphax from there should be enough to get the HackMii Installer started in vWii mode.
