Despite claiming that the game would not be receiving an English translation back during Anime Expo 2016, Aksys Games has decided to localize Tokyo Xanadu's "definitive" version for PS4, Tokyo Xanadu eX+. Not only that, but eX+ will also be receiving a PC port and will be getting a collector's edition. Tokyo Xanadu will release sometime this summer for Playstation Vita, and Tokyo Xanadu eX+ will launch in the fall for PS4 and PC.

OH EM GEE, a falcom game? :D

Well since not many get console ports these days, i may consider buying it, just none can hold candle to the YS series, especially the PSP and vita title. :)

Just i never heard of this game specifically. If this is a new game, got a bad feeling about it. :ninja:

I was just recently wondering what the plans were for this translation after hearing about it in 2016. This news came at a good time for me, though I'm not sure of the difference between the regular and eX+ editions. Is it just that the eX+ version is an HD, high-polygon, high-res version of the Vita release?

eX+ features new content, is rebalanced (the original was largely considered too easy), features improved graphics, and runs at 60 fps. I've only played eX+ myself, so I can't compare the too, but I've been enjoying it alot. I have talked to people with both versions though, and they much preferred the eX+ version.

Interesting that, with adjustments that heavy, they're still porting the base Vita version.

I think that's because Aksys was already working on translating the Vita version when the eX+ version was announced for Japan, so they probably just decided to finish up the inferior version as it'd just be a waste to discard it at that point. Not to mention Aksys has had great success with their localized Vita titles and they know they have a loyal following.

Aksys has great sucess for over 10 years :P
Reminds me of the classic working designs group from back in the PSX days. :)

There are couple more pieces of info that I noticed are missing from the main post.

    1. The Vita version will be getting a collectors edition as well, and it will have different contents fromt he PS4 one

    2. The game is confirmed to have Japanese audio exclusively, and will not have an English dub. This is especially notable since XSeed, who typically do translations of Falcom games, have had alot of trouble getting the rights to the japanese audio in the past.

Shame on me. I was so excited about it that I forgot the finer details. Thanks for the info.

This is a new game, but the Xanadu series has been around since the 80s.

I honestly never heard of this series. Like, at all and I'm a rpg fan.

If this came to the Switch, we would most likely have gotten the console version. Tho, I guess they could give you the base version and then allow you upgrade, but that seems bit too much.

Not looking good on you detective Chary. Penalty! 4 more and i may have to dismiss you as my ace. :P

So is this one of those long lost japanese exclusive titles that take forever to get international release like Fire Emblem or something?

Never heard of this game before, but it sure looks fun! Too bad I don't have a PS4, Hopefully it'll run well on PC.

Is this at all related to Faxanadu? Cool to see Falcom stuff get attention.

previous Xanadu titles have been localized before. Hell, Xanadu Next just came out on steam last year. I do think its important to note that this game has no real connection to them though. Only a few passing references.
Yep. Faxanadu is a spinoff of the older Xanadu games
