Now that TikTok has been sold to the MAGA Zionist billionaire Larry Ellison, the platform has made some blatant changes.

- Any mention of the Israel war in a negative light are shadow banned or stay in approval limbo forever.
- Any mention of the ICE killings are shadow banned.
- Content creators who have hundreds of thousands of followers get zero hits on videos which are content Ellison doesn't like.
- The search for "Reasons to love Israel" skyrocketed 1000% the day after the sale.

There is also an updated terms of service which gives them permission to collect info on:
Citizenship / Immigration status
Religious beliefs
Health diagnosis
Race
If you're part of the LBGTQ community and your sexual preferences

Billionaires are working hard to not only control free speech, but make a list of everyone they don't like in the US. They are the enemy.

Censorship and surveillance applies to social media everywhere, and it's not just TikTok, the world is 1984.
Saying the world is 1984 doesn't really address the issue here.

Yes, most social media sites do SOME censorship and data collection. I'm talking about blatant and sudden changes which nobody signed up for. These are very targeted moderations based on the desires of the owner.

:unsure::unsure: Wonder if tiktok gave X a bj, then all of a sudden tiktok's brain fell apart.

You think the original app run by the Chinese was any "better"? :D
Not in terms of being able to criticize the Chinese government, I'm sure, but that's why it's beneficial not having all online discourse controlled by a single country. Not surprising that Trump is now trying to censor all internet criticism of himself after trying to get several late night TV hosts fired for the same.

There's a bit of a difference. China did mostly focused censorship based on what was happening within their own country. If there was a protest, it would be ignored. Not great, but doesn't affect the US population that much. There was more than likely data collection, but nothing that would be able to be used against a user.

Now we've gone into much broader censorship of content to a point where we don't even know what else is being censored yet. They're also much more focused data collection of specific individuals. Before there was tracking based on IP addresses, which could easily circumvented with a VPN. Now, they're asking for exact GPS location data.

It was a far away problem before, now it's directly in your backyard and at a much higher scale.

this is actually great news hopefully it will be the end of SHIT tok and we'll finally be rid of that cancer to the internet
When you're right, you're right. If the market collectively decides that they want a billionaire to lose one of his large investments, that is good news.

Good to hear calling a spade a spade. The goal is painfully clear.

We're seeing how anything can be abused. (yeah websites may have the "freedom" to choose what they wish to host, but what happens when their actions are shameless censoring?)

Hopefully it does, but I fear too many people have been programmed to love that type of short-form entertainment and won't leave the platform. They also won't notice the slow uptick in far-right content in their feed, or the total lack of dissenting opinions.

Ouch... I thought this thread was going to be about how posting criticism of ICE doesn't work due to'technical issues', but it's actually worse.

I used to avoid tiktok because it was filled with cringe dance moves. Now I avoid it because anything but that is under strict surveillance.

Tiktok helpdesk from the future...
Bot: hi. How can I help you?
User: i can't post my videos anymore!
Bot: ah, I see. It appears you're not CIS enough to allow for further uploading. Please try setling more on a gender to continue using our service.
User: but it's just a dance video!
Bot: not with your medical history it isn't.

i hope annon is still around to shut down the US tiktok division
