Hey all!

I've been working lately on a release of Ship of Harkinian for the WiiU, and finally its ready for a first release!

Now this build will support high res textures packs and it really brings forth the magic of Ocarina of time.

There will be some bugs, especially clipping graphics bugs (expect them to be minor) as I had to do a lot of optimization to get them to render properly on the GPU.

STATUS
Ship of Harkinian 9.2.3 r1: released

Download: https://github.com/utsnik/Shipwright/releases/tag/wiiu-9.2.3-r1
2 Ship 2 Harkinian: runs on my console, not released yet. I'll update this post when it is.

SHIP OF HARKINIAN: INSTALL
1. Make oot.o2r on a PC with desktop SoH 9.2.3 (Windows, Linux or macOS) and your ROM.
It has to be 9.2.3: an archive from another version will not work.

2. Copy the files to your SD card:
sd:/wiiu/apps/soh.wuhb
sd:/wiiu/apps/soh923/soh.o2r
sd:/wiiu/apps/soh923/oot.o2r

3. Start Ship of Harkinian from the Wii U Menu.

The full guide is in README.md inside the zip.

WHAT WORKS
  • The whole game, with SoH's in-game menu and settings. Tested with the NTSC-U 1.2 ROM.
  • TV and GamePad output.
  • 30 fps by default. The original 20 fps is one setting away.
  • Every button press and release reaches the game (no missed presses or stuck spin attacks).
  • Texture packs (see below).
  • 3DS polygons and moss
  • Lots of optimizations

KNOWN LIMITS
  • Busy scenes can dip below 30 fps. Set 20 fps in the menu if that bothers you.
  • Entering a new area can pause briefly while it loads from the SD card, more so with big texture packs. (Try to install to internal nand if possible, or use fast enough SD/HDD
  • Distant textures can shimmer (no mipmapping yet).
  • Some torch and lamp glows in Hyrule Field show through the hills as small yellow dots.
  • Master Quest and ROM versions other than NTSC-U 1.2 have not been tested on a Wii U yet.
Bugs:

  • Save editor currently causes the Wii U to freeze

  • GPU compression of texture packs for 5 fold performance increase on texture handling (Done, check the pack helper)

TEXTURE PACKS (read before installing one.)

Texture packs, the easy way (Pack Helper)

Before you start: SoH r2 needs to be on the SD card already, with your oot.o2r in wiiu/apps/soh923/. The helper uses it.

  1. Download SoH-WiiU-Pack-Helper.exe from the r2 release page (Windows).
  2. Put the Wii U SD card in your PC and start the helper. If Windows says "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then "run anyway".
  3. Step 1: click Choose your SD card..., pick the card (or usb) (for example E:\), then Next.
  4. Step 2: the helper has a link to Djipi's GameBanana page. Download Djipi's 3DS Experience, and Skilar's Art Plus Link too if you want that Link. Leave them zipped. Click Add pack files..., pick the zips, then Next.
  5. Step 3: press Start and wait for Done. It will take some minutes depending on SD card speed. Then click Close.
  6. Put the card back in the Wii U and start Ship of Harkinian.
That's it. The helper works out which files to turn on, converts everything to the Wii U GPU texture compression so it runs better, and makes the skybox fix for you. Packs you already have in mods/ stay where they are. If it replaces an older version of a pack, the old one goes to a mods-backup folder, so nothing is deleted.

Using the USB Partition plugin instead of an SD card? Pick the FAT32 part of the drive. If Windows offers to format the other part, click Cancel, because that's where your Wii U games are.

The manual way: (non optimized)

Where to get them: from the pack author's own page. Most of the Wii U testing was done
with Djipi's 3DS Experience (https://gamebanana.com/mods/477979). I can't share packs or
converted copies (the authors' licences don't allow it), so please don't ask for them
here, and please don't reupload them. (I have tried to reach out to djipi and ask for redistribution rights)

Installing:
  • Put the pack's .o2r / .otr files in sd:/wiiu/apps/soh923/mods/
  • New files are switched on automatically the next time SoH starts.
  • Check that "Enable Mods" is ticked in SoH's Mods menu.

Load order matters. Packs later in the list override earlier ones. Files you add together
are put in alphabetical order, which is the order Djipi numbers his parts in. If you
remove a file and add it back, it goes to the END of the list. A low-resolution part can
then cover the HD one. Typical signs are big white or blue blobs instead of flowers in
Hyrule Field, or a flat solid plate where Death Mountain's cloud ring should be. If you
see that, fix the order in the Mods menu.

Djipi's 3DS Experience on the Wii U:
  • It runs at full resolution, but it has only been played with the older .o2r release.
The current download (v6.0.2) ships .otr files. Those load, but they skip some of the
Wii U loading speed-ups and haven't been tested on a console yet. Reports are welcome.

*Hyrule Field is the heavy part. The pack's Hyrule Field scene part swaps in the 3DS
terrain model, and that model is most of the frame cost there.
If Hyrule Field runs
slowly, turn that part off in the Mods menu and keep the rest. Hyrule Field then uses
The original terrain with the pack's main textures.

*White screen when talking to the Kokiri Shop owner or in the Carpenters' tent: this
comes from the pack, not the port. A few of the pack's shop background textures are
completely blank. It only shows in the shop dialogue view.

Big packs in general: the Wii U has far less memory than a PC. Textures stay loaded
between areas while memory allows, so revisits are quicker. A very large pack still means longer pauses when you enter a new area.

Full-size multi GB packs (such as OoT Reloaded
on its own) have not been tested.

2 SHIP 2 HARKINIAN (NOW RELEASED!!)

2S2H is now released! This is an early build, so please give me your feedback. I had a nightmare where a drawing technique worked perfectly on SoH but caused texture streaking in 2S2H. I think i got it fixed, but feedback would be highly appreciated..

BUG REPORTS
Please post them in this thread. Start the post with "SoH:" or "2S2H:", and include your
ROM version, which texture packs you use (and their order), and where in the game it
happened.

Thanks for the bug report, save editor is something I've never tried out on this build. I'll look at it!

Haven't thought about multiplayer support, but I'll put it on the to-do list!

That was kick, I really want to see how this port progress, and about multiplayer maybe we can get cross-play with the switch port of SOH

His shaders renderer are compiled in real time on every frame ,you could or must try to use precompiled shaders for a graphics performance boost on both ports.

I've done a lot of optimization already, they are compiled on the first called frame and then cached. There might be some small stutters if a lot of shaders are called at the same time.

Unfortunately SoH runs on a single core on the WiiU, I'd love to enable multicore later.

You should try the texture packs, it really looks great with them! 1080p with high res and 30fps is quite nice.

I'll add some screenshots later

If you can do
  • GPU compression of texture packs for 5 fold performance increase on texture handling

    AND Multithreading /

AND *use precompiled shaders for a graphics performance boost* / multiplayer .... this could be ...pretty interesting ....

1.2/RevB rom support? This is the one I prefer. My actual cartridge is the revision B version. Excellent.

Is there a way to use custom text from the hack 'Ocarina Temporis' to change the language to Latin?

(May I ask what the python script for fixing skyboxes about?)

Thank you very much for your amazing work!

I have questions about the Djipi Mod though:

When I go to downloads there are 2 options:

- skilar_s_art_plus_link_by_djipi_94394.zipClean (5 MB)
- djipi_s_3ds_experience_tot_fix.zip (624 MB)

I installed the second one.
Now I want to add the fix_blank_skyboxes.py

For this the command in the README is:
python3 fix_blank_skyboxes.py oot.o2r "Djipi's 3DE - 01 Main Textures.o2r" zz-fix-blank-skyboxes.o2r

In the downloaded texture files I only got
Djipi's 3DE - 01 Main Textures.otr

Because of the different file endings the code didn't work. I change the file ending of the texture to o2r and ran the code again.
The code gave me:
gKokiriShopBgTex ok
gKokiriShop2BgTex ok
gCarpentersTentBgTex ok
gCarpentersTent2BgTex ok
gCarpentersTent3BgTex ok

Afterwards I changed it back to otr.

So did I do anything wrong?
Thanks again

Thanks, glad you're enjoying it!

You didn't do anything wrong. The script doesn't care about the file ending, it just reads what's inside, so you could have used the .otr name directly. Renaming it back and forth didn't hurt anything. Those five "ok" lines mean it worked.

Now just copy zz-fix-blank-skyboxes.o2r into sd:/wiiu/apps/soh923/mods/ and keep the "zz-" at the start of the name so it loads after Djipi's files. The shop and the carpenters' tent should look normal after that.

About the two downloads: they're two separate packs from the same page. The big one is Djipi's 3DS Experience, which covers basically the whole game, Link included. The small one is Skilar's Art Plus Link, which only replaces Link. That's the version I play with, but it's optional. If you use it, Djipi's own Link file (02) has to be turned off, or the two clash and Link's face looks a bit off.

Easiest option is to grab both zips and run the Pack Helper from the r2 release. It sorts out which files to turn on, converts everything so GPU compression works and makes the skybox fix for you, so you can skip the script.

The README could explain all this better, I'll fix it for the next release.

I tried it with Pack helper according to your description and it works beautifully 😃
Thanks to you and everyone making this possible.

In my playthrough I noticed that my deku sticks are inbisible (Playing MQ though) Any advices?

Also, I tried 2Ship and it worked as well💪. But i dont know how to access the menu since minus button didn't do it.
