So, after a year or two of only playing PS1 games on my PSP, I decided to come back to the beloved ePSXe and overall PC emulation.

I found this game Threads of Fate. So far, it looks like a hidden gem. However, I cannot figure out the resolution of the game and being the purefag I am, I want the game to look as pixelated as possible. But without the proper resolution, the pixels look quite terrible and I cannot stomach such cruelness done to my games!

So yeah, what's a good way to figure out a game's resolution?

PS1 games typically had terrible pixels - one of the worst offenders being the much lauded Chrono Cross (wins my vote for ugliest game of all time). In order to get 'good resolution' you have to resort to tricks like different plugins and filters.

Here is a video of what the game could theoretically look like:

edit - and yes, I know this doesn't answer your question exactly

Well the game looks roughly like this. I don't mind the game looking old or dated, but when there's text involved, it's easy to see how some pixels are 1:1 squares, but other shapes and forms instead. THAT can get quite annoying.

i remember having epsxe an original resolution option. that should be fine.

also sometimes having the original resolution might cause incorrect aspect ratio.

if somehow epsxe original resolution isn't working, choose 320x240. it should suffice for most psx games.

In reply to your first post. Disable any bilinear/trilinear shading or use software rendering. If you type in 'epsxe native resolution' into google, pete's forum is the first link (you are most probably using one of his plugins). The second 'proboards' link is where you will find your answer.

Okay, so the real resolution is 512x208. From the looks of it, the game uses some kind of trick to make the game look good. In this case, I doubled the vertical resolution. It look okay, but I think I could do better with this. :D

Either way, thanks! I used Dr.Hell's plugin to figure it out.

That Dell data breach is worse than people probably realize....
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
When I worked for Dell we had access to data about military contracts and addresses for high ranking people.

I personally handled a call from the second highest person at Raytheon. That call bothered me a lot... The guy was nice and smart what bothered me was the way management basically just blew him off instead of going the extra mile to help him.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
In the end that call ended up costing Dell millions in lost contracts with Raytheon, and really the issue could have been solved for like 450 bucks lol

sometimes I wonder why anyone would ever buy mega man x legacy collection 2
  • NinStar @ NinStar:
I always thought that capcom shuffled the games in these collection, but apparently they are all in chronological order, which makes legacy collection 2 worthless
