Hardware Thoughts on 3DS Price?

Price is not that bad. I play it all the time and it's only $250. That is expensive if you're a broke person though.

- it's more than a old (used) gen console.

That like taking a ps3 and truly making it to a portable (Ps3P) pricing it a little higher
than the used/old console and saying that (way) over price.

I have to agree. Some items, even with high shipping costs, cost cheaper than buying from here.

As for the sim lim square issue, I prefer getting games from qisahn or funzsquare. Their prices are lower and their service is very good. I got ripped in SLS on my first DS purchase, so I already *so called* have a phobia of SLS

Same here got ripped off on my DSL purchase at SLS. I don't recommend going there at all. I preordered my 3ds from amazon. with the discounts on games, I'm actually paying lesser than I would be paying if i bought in Singapore. The downside is I cant hold mine at launch>.>

I called maxsoft and confirmed that the asia set is actually just US set with a different charger.

At 2008, $288 for a DS lite and a R4i is pretty much affordable. I bought mine for $400+, see the difference?

um...3DS just came out. Better graphics? Maybe more,but a lot more...like what?

I like to see you put a wii in your pocket and carry around.

Plus the 3DS is pack in with new portable technology vs the old ds line.

People act as if portables come from thin air or that components are the only price.

Well, here in Mexico the 3DS is at $5,490 pesos (retail store price), considering 1 dollar equals (as of today) $12 pesos, then we can say that its $457.5 USD. And you thought it was expensive at the US, huh? Anyway, a friend of mine is buying it for me and I will have it probably on Tuesday. It's still a shame how over-priced it is here...

for that fact thats its portable it seems on the high side to me. It cost about as much as a ps3 and more then an xbox 360.
But it is 3d screen, touch screen, and the graphic are better then the wii.
Still think the price should be like $200
games tho are on point with $39.99

I would have to say that the 3DS is a little pricey considering the flaws. If it was flawless and Nintendo built it well then I would consider the price as justified.

Not gonna' lie, the day the 3DS is hacked, I am going to purchase one regardless of my financial situation.
The price is higher than I'd like to pay for a handheld, but if I didn't have to pay such a hugeee amount for the games, It would be an easy no brain purchase.

To me my DSi was sort of like my Wii; I could never ever pay for a game without feeling gross and ripped off, because a Wii game held everyones attention for about 5 minutes, and then hardly any one would come back and play it.
With the DSi, I only have time/ enthusiasm to play it while going on long trips, waiting in long movie lines, and occasionally at home for really great solo or mp games...the DSi had a lot of games that suck you in for hours, which is unlike my Wii experience.

Maybe the 3DS just needs a really epic game to come out to inspire more people.

The 3DS just got a price cut here. Haha. But by just a measly S$10 (about US$7).

Many bundles for the 3DS are also available, such as with Hori protectors and filters together with game/s at pretty reasonable prices. It's no wonder i see more people here bring out their 3DS.

@McNutShack MGS 3D and Pokemon are coming... Conduit is also confirmed for a little shooting entertainment, also RE. Tales of the Abyss also coming...

@badgerkins i don't think so, can't you get one new set from amazon at 199 GBP? That's what i've heard. :/

Here in Australia I got one a few days after launch for $289, even though the RRP is $349. It is moderately priced, for the features included, maybe a touch on the expensive side.

On the day I bought it, the A$ was worth $1.04 US meaning it costs US$300.56. Today, the A$ is worth US$1.10, meaning US$317.60.

Actually, it looks as if the 3DS CAN replicate the Wii in "graphics". Not actual Wii graphics, but to look similar.

In power? Probably not. However, the 3DS has the advantage of a smaller screen, therefore, smaller resolution, meaning less power needed to produce higher-end graphics.

With the proper renderers, shading, and power distribution over all, the 3DS could show itself to be pretty powerful.
