Those signatures... That are removed?

From time to time, I see people with the signature

"Signature removed by staff, check your PM box for details."

I first thought that it was just a fad that people would do, but then I noticed noobs that had them too.

What was wrong with those signatures, and why does no one PM me?

It's clear you know the rules on signatures as you signature is 500x150, the maximum allowed. To know that was the maximum, you would have had to read the rules. Those signatures which are removed, don't comply with the signature rules.

No, I mean... If that does happen, doesn't the signature page just say "No signatures those sizes are allowed?"

I mean, was there any flash content in signatures, or maybe webpage hijackers (if that's possible)?

I'm dead serious, and I'm sorry if I sound stupid.

TJ Cool posted an image of what a mod sees in one of his posts.

If I remember correctly, there's a button on the post for them 'remove signature'. The message which replaces it is more than likely automated.

I've reported a few that have been oversized, there are those on here that have signatures ~1MB. You can tell as your PC sits there loading them for a while.

There was something on here previously about a former member of staff who wanted to screw with the site by using oversized images.

Many people broke that rule so they are removed. and tksaturn is correct about 1MB sigs AND GIF avatar's..

This forum is "site discussions & suggestions", therefore it is indeed in the correct forum to ask such a question.

If you break the pixel size limit, it gets removed.

If you go over 80k for the combination of both the avatar and sig pic, it gets removed.

If either the ava or sig contains inappropriate imagery, it gets removed.

Hope that explains things.

GIFS aren't wrong by any means, but they should be small enough. And yours only has a couple of frames, so it is allowed.

The Rules

Avatars and signatures are available for members to personalise their posts by adding their own custom images or text. Do not abuse this right, or it will be removed.

Your posted images, avatars and signatures are constantly reviewed by the moderating staff. Images that the GBAtemp Staff find are too big or that are deemed inappropriate including obscene, pornographic, vulgar and any other distasteful or sexually explicit material will be censored, edited or removed with OR without notice; and may result in the member being warned, suspended or banned.

Users are prohibited from posting transparent/invisible images that stretch the page, and the flash-based "screamers" and 1x1 pixel flash videos. Dynamic and HTML-based images, as well as those with overly long animation sequences are also disallowed in your avatars and signatures.

The following image is an example to help you understand the maximum size of a signature graphic. You may go under and but NOT over the 500x150 pixel guideline. No exceptions.

If you see scroll bars in a signature space, that signature is over the maximum dimension limit.

Unlike the resolution of the main signature graphic, there are no set file size limits per image.

* The maximum combined file size for all graphics in a member's avatar and signature is: 80Kb
* Members may distribute this 80Kb however they wish (Example: 30Kb avatar/50Kb sig, 50Kb avatar/25Kb sig, etc)
