Hacking Thinking of Updating

Hello all, right now my wii is a 3.2U and a few days ago I started having trouble with Mplayer CE. Damn thing kept going back to channel screen instead of loading so I decided to delete and reinstall the app through homebrew browser. HBB tried updating, failed, retained the version I had, and went to the HBB menu. From there I queued up some updates to some emulators and mplayer ce. It began downloading and in the middle of installing Mplayer, it went to the error screen.

At this point I reset the wii and tried to go into HBC to try again. Now I have HBC not loading but instead going straight back to the channel screen. Using a different SD card I decided to use Hackmii with bannerbomb to uninstall/reinstall HBC in hopes of restoring it. Unfortunately this has not helped me out. I have not done much modding to the wii since my initial hacking, but I'm a little freaked out as I have no idea what to do at this point.

Thus my problem. I am considering installing Bootmii as boot2, but I think it's already installed as an IOS. Second, I'm thinking of doing a Nintendo update, but I'm unsure if I can stop it at 4.2U or if it will go to 4.3U. I also do not know if that will end up as an insta-brick. Some advice is needed, as I don't know what I can do at this point.

1st of all u should already have BootMii as Boot2 and not just as an IOS!!

2nd if u do an update it will put u at SM 4.3! If u want SM 4.2 u will have 2 install that manually!

I've been looking through the board trying to see if anyone asked about updating before and had not much luck. I have that guide open right now but I don't think I can do anything at the moment. I used twilight hack to mod my rig for HBC and further apps and have bever used bootmii before. I put bootmii on the SD but I guess I'll try it as boot2. not sure what to expect. Thanks for the quick responses though. 4.3 might not be bad, just afraid that Nintendo may cause it to destroy my wii........

I suppose if u had a power outage u'd brick 4 sure! But updating 2 SM 4.3 will remove all u hacks 4 sure!!

your best bet is to use x-flax's, "modmii"this will update all outdated ios's and system menu's without deleting any homebrew....search this site and u will surely find it, plus it will only take a few minutes to do it all as well......worth a look

so what happens when you run the hackmii installer?

also, do you have any forwarder channels installed?

I load through bannerbomb. It opens the hackmii. I unistall HBC, reinstall and finish up. I try to load HBC on the channel menu AND BOOM..... reset. So yeah it's like that. I only have forwarder for HBC at the moment

What do you mean by "forwarder for the HBC"?
If you install HBC it coms with the channel installed afterwards.
Do you have blocks free on your Wii?

Sorry I'm scattered right now. I'm fixing some other computer related issues atm while doing this. I thought channel=forwarder but that's all I got is HBC channel at the moment. I got system memory to spare and an attached USB HD but my main issue is just working around the not-wanting-to-load HBC

try uninstalling the homebrew channel.

reboot the wii.

run bannerbomb then reinstall hbc.

post the hackmii log file on your sd card here.

alright sounds like something is up with your IOS 36 and 38

you should run wad manager thru bannerbomb then and fresh IOS58 then reinstall hbc

Stuff is ridiculous. I load Wad Manager through bannerbomb and try to install IOS58 and I get Error! (ret= -1017).
I tried that Modmii prog but after installing HBC and additionally bootmii as boot2, still nadda.

Bootmii (on boot2) is apparently supposed to load from the time I turn on the wii....... but it does not! WTF? I am so lost right now

I think I've solved my prob. I loaded Dopmii through bannerbomb and fixed IOSs 36 38 and 56 (I hope those are right). Boot2 showed up this morning. Just trying to fix everything else now. I will update when I find out more
