The worst mods. These poor Retro Game Systems have been butchered into emulator boxes and docks

I never understood the concept behind these awful mods. Everyone one of the systems is no longer in its original state. The authenticity is gone. Sure to the casual retro gamer. “Who cares it doesn’t make a difference.” Or “It looks cool” But what these people are doing is turning something original that is no longer being made. Into something that is generic and pretty worthless. Something that isn’t going to stand the test of time. There are countless better Raspberry Pi cases like the PiBoy, Docks, and PC Cases out there. But with these classic systems you're turning them into emulator boxes which will introduce inaccuracies, lag and with these mods you can no longer use your original carts and disks, flash carts, accessories/add ons, etc.

A good mod is adding more functionality to the original system and installing it properly looking at you Drakon . Such as Video/Audio mods like DCHDMI, Triple Bypass, GCDual, RGB mods for the NES, 1Chip SNES, N64 which significantly improve video quality. Or replacing the PSU with an external Pico PSU which improves cooling, power efficiency with cross-region support. A lot of these consoles come with RGB support which looks very sharp and vivid on modern displays. There are also ODE’s (On Disk Emulators) like the XStation for the PS1, Mode Sega Saturn and Dreamcast, GC Loader or SD2SP2 for the GameCube besides SD2SP2 most replace the disk drive with an SD card port. I’m not into this as i prefer to use my physical games. But i can understand why they’re popular as disk drives are unreliable, slower load times, and games can be expensive. All these mods preserve the original motherboard but with more functionality. Whereas these mods change it into something else. Something that is no longer authentic. And people are doing this with Arcade Machines, Vintage PC’s, Nintendo, Sega, Atari, SNK, Commodore, NEC, Apple etc. Even Linus is guilty of ruining Retro PC's by putting new hardware into old cases. You can do a lot with an old rig even more than an old skool console and if it has a Soundblaster or a 3DFX Voodoo it can be highly sought after by Retro Gamers. I guess it’s the throw-away mindset people have. The new is always better, mindset probably explains why i can’t get a hold of a decent CRT these days. Share your thoughts. What do you think? This is also hard to watch. A Sega Saturn in the wrong hands

That's in fact why I get plenty of TVs and PCs in perfect working condtion (or needing a 4 minute repair) for free..
You know the saying - "Every day in the First World - a man wakes up and knows that he will need to out-drive the garbagemen"... :)

As for the main topic, yep I do consider it a waste to throw away a working system (and I'm patiently waiting for my eMac motherboard to burn out so I can replace it with a newer one :) )

It's great to have people like you, sometimes you got to get some of the stuff before the scrappers and garbage collectors do. I would love to get a hold of a Sony PVM CRT someday. As for repairing that system, isn't it cheaper to replace the burned out part.
