Why make a thread, for something you are just guessing and have no idea!
Because speculation is fun.
Anyway, the next DS (call it DS2) will have the clamshell design again, with the screens spanning the entire width of the console. The bottom screen will have that
tactile touch-screen technology (multi-touch, of course), to emulate the D-pad and ABXY keys, but also allow for any combination of keys the game demands (including a full,
tactile QWERTY keyboard; touch-typing FTW).
A tilt sensor is very likely.
Also, an inward pointing camera with face and eye detection, that follows where you're looking, and maybe incorporates that into the gameplay (by expanding menu options when you look at them, or by giving additional info on on-screen objects you're currently looking at). Also, a
DSP coprocessor, for gesture, handwriting and voice recognition.
...less likely. But still awesome.
Video chat in games ("Do a barrel roll", etc.) Highly unlikely, but a guy can dream, can't he
The outward camera would be used to incorporate your surroundings into the gameplay, whether creating new levels from your photos, or measuring the light level, or having you take pictures of specific objects in order to progress in the game.
Aside from all the channels found on the Wii (DS2-Ware, Shopping Channel, Everybody Vote, News, Weather, Homebrew
), the next DS would have a social networking channel akin to Facebook, where you could post your texts, drawings, podcasts and videos, all done on your DS.
...never gonna happen, but still, it's fun to daydream
Man, I hope there's a console developer lurking the forums in search of ideas right now.
