the DSI is near and with it the DS Generation with it. And well, Nintendo has establish the Touch Generation, which was the DS, and well, it did very well as you all probably know. But, what will they do next? Do you have any ideas on what nintendo might do next? Or do you think they will go back to a gamecube state, in which there will be barely any sales compared to the the next PSP, whatever the hell that wil lbe.

Well, I would hope for a new handheld with the power of at least the Gamecube. It would probably have a multi-touch capable touchscreen. At least 640x480 screens would be nice too. It would need to have texture filtering, anti-aliasing and less casual noob games.

They could call it the DX.....Dual Extreme.

In a system such as this, I would accept the loss of the GBA port in favor of backward compatibility with old DS games.

maybe you can make a character move with eye power by staring at the direction you want it to go on the new "look screen" mysterious... [IMG]

    Because speculation is fun.

Anyway, the next DS (call it DS2) will have the clamshell design again, with the screens spanning the entire width of the console. The bottom screen will have that tactile touch-screen technology (multi-touch, of course), to emulate the D-pad and ABXY keys, but also allow for any combination of keys the game demands (including a full, tactile QWERTY keyboard; touch-typing FTW). [IMG]

A tilt sensor is very likely.

Also, an inward pointing camera with face and eye detection, that follows where you're looking, and maybe incorporates that into the gameplay (by expanding menu options when you look at them, or by giving additional info on on-screen objects you're currently looking at). Also, a DSP coprocessor, for gesture, handwriting and voice recognition. [IMG]

    ...less likely. But still awesome.

Video chat in games ("Do a barrel roll", etc.) Highly unlikely, but a guy can dream, can't he [IMG]

The outward camera would be used to incorporate your surroundings into the gameplay, whether creating new levels from your photos, or measuring the light level, or having you take pictures of specific objects in order to progress in the game.

Aside from all the channels found on the Wii (DS2-Ware, Shopping Channel, Everybody Vote, News, Weather, Homebrew [IMG] ), the next DS would have a social networking channel akin to Facebook, where you could post your texts, drawings, podcasts and videos, all done on your DS.

...never gonna happen, but still, it's fun to daydream [IMG]

Man, I hope there's a console developer lurking the forums in search of ideas right now. [IMG]

Nintendo will release the DS controller (with a weak wrist strap of course).

It will be a DS that can also be a Wii controller.

Then you will be able to smash in your TV screen with your now broken DS.

Nintendo of course predicts greatly increased sales of this new controller DS until stronger wrist straps are made.

Touch screens are great for phones and for some games, but for others (ex. Mario Kart, Super Mario Bros. etc) you need to have precision with the real deal. The iPhone is limited because of this until the icontrolpad comes out (google). I love the big screens idea, but you gotta squeeze the buttons in somewhere!

Check the link. This is nothing like the current touch screens (iPhone included). Using piezoelectric pads, the surface of the touch screen can bulge out in places, assuming the shape of an actual keyboard, including the indented spaces between individual keys (whereas the screen of an iPhone is flat). This enables touch-typing, because you can feel every individual key under your fingers. When you press a "key", the screen reverses the piezo-effect, and retracts that part of the screen, emulating an actual key being pressed down (whereas the screen of the iPhone remains flat). This feels like an actual keyboard. The piezo-element resolution can reach that of the screen itself, so the virtual keyboard can assume any shape or distribution of keys the game requires and that the screen can show.
