The Caligula Effect Overdose, RPG Maker MV, and Princess Guide all announced for the Nintendo Switch

Anime Expo 2018 is officially underway. Many localization studios and companies tend to use the convention as a platform to announce new games heading west, and NIS America is one of them. Multiple games and trailers were announced all at once, with a majority of the upcoming games focused on the Nintendo Switch. The first to be revealed was The Caligula Effect: Overdose, a game that initially launched on the Vita in 2016. This is an upgraded version, offering a new playable character, more story content, and improved graphics. The game will be launching for the Switch sometime early next year.

Following that, were two new trailers for games that already had been announced. Both Disgaea 1: Complete and Labyrinth of Refrain: Coven of Dusk got short videos detailing some of the characters from each game respectively. Disgaea 1: Complete will be hitting the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 on October 9. Labyrinth of Refrain is headed west on NS/PC/PS4 on September 18.

A game that had already been spoiled its announcement, thanks to an early leaked Australian Classification Board listing, is RPG Maker MV. Now, the game has been officially revealed, and is coming to consoles later in 2019.

Lastly, was a trailer for The Princess Guide, an RPG where you play as four different princesses and use their armies to defeat enemies. This game will be out in 2019, for PS4 and Switch.

That's because the guy who wrote to the story to the first PErsona was also involved with Caligula. Unlike Persona though, it's shit. The anime is meant to be half decent I've heard,
I mean, Persona 1 has some good stuff but let's be real, that game itself isn't the epitome of greatness. Pretty much all other SMT games are great though. Persona 1 is...eh.

I am glad this is coming over, but why did NISA had to be the one to get it? The PS4 version will be fine because it's already made, so they just have to translate it, but the PC and Switch versions will be full of glitches/bugs and they will be broken mess that will either be delayed or need a lot of patching. Seems like Ys VIII, the PS4 version is the definite version and the one to get.

Pretty interesting. I might get all of these.

The Caligula Effect sounds pretty Persona-like.

Actually, he also did Persona 2 IS and EP, which are really great (especially Innocent Sin, which are my favorite Persona)

RPG Maker is a godsend, Switch owners will finally be able to get some games on the platform.

Jokes aside, always nice to see niche Japanese games getting localised.

RPG Maker is a plus...
...buy why must all of today's anime look cutesy, stream lined, devoid of character, and soft as in Soy Boy?

MAN I miss the days of Akira!!!

I was being facetious, RPG Maker games are usually overpriced IMO.
Idk, since they already have a base from previous titles you're right in the sense of what there development cost are and how much money they want for it, yet you easily get 200hours and more non-grinding "gameplay" out of it. Maybe they include the DLCs Cover Art Characters Pack and Essentials Set for free (I know, but you can dream...).
As excited as I'm for this release, I hope Nintendo will hold the eShop abit clean with all the new mediocre RPG Maker games comming soon.

Once again I see people getting excited over a rpg maker port to consoles. The thing is that most (if not all) good games made with rpg maker NEED to use customized scripts, it's thanks to the rpg maker community that there are still good rpg maker games being made, if the switch does not support custom scripts, overlay, etc. then the game is going to be forgotten after the first month of hype.

What do you think will happen as far as supporting custom scripts go with the switch? Do you think it will be implemented? Hopefully it turns out to be a decent rpg maker.

They won't implement anything custom on a console, with consoles they are always afraid of giving too much freedom to the users and then that leading to some sort of exploit. Instead, and in the best case scenario, they will just port some of the most popular scripts but that's all. So what has always killed all rpg makers for consoles is the fact that you are stuck with the assets that the game gives you, so there is no individuality.

@Xdqwerty No you heard wrong, and don't believe till you experience yourself. Fallout 4 is one of my favorite games of all time. Yes it had issues early on, esp with older hardware like the xbox1, but it is awesome, esp now being 4k on Series S/X or PS5

    that one was buggy too
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea you right there, fallout 76 was a letdown, but it not that bad now, they have fixed slot of issues they had at launch. Biggest issue with Fallout 76 is its a pay to advance further type of game, which sucks
