---Why I think it needs to be translated?
It's SO CUTE! dress up, makeup, plus, we all love cozy retro games, and It's a fun game!
Girls Mode 3 and Girls Mode 2
The Japanese version have exclusive items and brands not found in the US version and more.
The ideal bf bit is the least interesting aspect, but I would love to see more Japanese "games for girls". The last ones I remember are Nintendogs and Animal Crossing being unofficially designated such where I grew up. Don't really remember ever seeing anything cool like this, just some trashy low budget barbie games over the years.

Would love to try this while being a sleepyhead, without having to look up kanji randomly.

Dragon Quest XI got a project update yesterday in the form of a pinned comment on a youtube video.

Seems like another group picked up the project. They're currently looking for translators to translate some strings exclusive to the 3DS version.

Hopefully, this one succeeds. The previous project's progress kinda got halted after omarrrio lost the project files due to an accident last time I checked.

This game, alongside the PS1 Dragon Quest Monsters 1&2 (it's been like 19 years since the first fan translation attempt for that one started), are def the translation patches I'm most eagerly waiting for currently.

Developer/Publisher: Noise / Square Enix
Release: June 13, 2013
Genre: RPG with Racing elements

Does it have lots of text?
Yes
Why I don't think this will come out in the West?
It flopped in Japan and the last 3DS games came out a few years ago, so...
What is it about?
The game was published by Square Enix and is based on the anime of the same name, which takes place in an alternate version of the 21st century where AI-equipped cars have revolutionized the industry—most notably a limited-edition model called the Gyrozetter, which can transform into giant robots.
Popularity in Japan:
Not much. It sold less than 40.000 copies in the year of release.

Why I think it needs to be translated?
It's a very good RPG with interesting monster capture mechanics, but with cars/mechas.
What I can do to help:
Test translation patches and proofread.

I'm not sure if this thread is still active or if translation requests are still being accepted, but I wanted to make a proper request for this game anyway.

I'm looking for a Korean fan translation of Yo-kai Sangokushi (妖怪三国志) for the Nintendo 3DS.

I know that translating and reverse-engineering a 3DS game can be a huge amount of work, so I'm not expecting someone to simply pick this up just because I asked for it. I wanted to explain why I think this game would be an interesting project, and also explain what I can personally contribute.

Game Name:

Yo-kai Sangokushi (妖怪三国志)

Developer / Publisher:

LEVEL-5 / Koei Tecmo

Release:

Nintendo 3DS — Japan, 2016

Genre:

Turn-based Tactical RPG / Strategy RPG

Does it have lots of text?

Yes.

There is a substantial amount of Japanese text throughout the game.

This includes story dialogue, menus, tutorials, quests, character information, abilities, items, battle-related text, and other gameplay systems.

Because of this, a Korean translation would require more than simply translating dialogue. The game would need proper text extraction and reinsertion, Korean font support, formatting adjustments, testing, and proofreading.

Why I don't think this will come out in Korea officially

Yo-kai Sangokushi was released in Japan in 2016 and never received an official Korean localization.

The game is also a very specific crossover between Yo-kai Watch and Romance of the Three Kingdoms, combining LEVEL-5's Yo-kai Watch characters with the Three Kingdoms setting.

Considering that the game is already around ten years old and was designed specifically for the Japanese market, I don't think an official Korean localization is very likely at this point.

What is it about?

Yo-kai Sangokushi is a crossover between Yo-kai Watch and Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Yo-kai Watch characters are placed into the world of the Three Kingdoms, with various Yo-kai taking the roles of famous historical figures.

The game creates its own alternate version of the Three Kingdoms story through the world and characters of Yo-kai Watch.

The gameplay is also built around the crossover. It is a turn-based tactical RPG, rather than simply being a normal Yo-kai Watch game with a different story.

The game has its own battles, progression systems, characters, abilities, quests, and other mechanics based around the combination of the two series.

One of the things I find especially interesting about the game is that it takes both sides of the crossover seriously while still keeping the humor and personality of Yo-kai Watch.

Why would Korean players be interested?

I think this game has a particularly interesting audience in Korea because the Three Kingdoms setting is already very familiar to Korean players.

Three Kingdoms has had a very long-standing presence in Korean games and popular culture. Many Korean players are already familiar with characters such as Liu Bei, Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Cao Cao, Zhuge Liang, and many others.

At the same time, Yo-kai Watch has its own Korean fanbase.

This makes the combination of the two franchises especially interesting for Korean players.

A player who enjoys Three Kingdoms can immediately recognize many of the historical characters and references, while Yo-kai Watch fans can enjoy seeing familiar Yo-kai reimagined in completely different roles.

So I think this is more than simply an obscure Japanese-only game that happens to have no Korean translation.

It is a very unusual crossover involving a series with an established audience and a historical setting that is already well known in Korea.

Screenshots:

I would include several screenshots from the actual game here.

I think it would be best to show a mixture of:

  • Story/dialogue
  • Tactical battles
  • Character screens
  • Menus
  • Three Kingdoms-related characters
  • Interesting or funny Yo-kai / Three Kingdoms combinations

I would also include actual gameplay footage rather than only promotional material.

I think actual gameplay footage is more useful because it allows anyone interested in the project to see the game's mechanics, presentation, and amount of Japanese text for themselves.

Why I think it needs to be translated

The biggest problem for Korean players is the language barrier.

Since the game was never released in Korean, someone without Japanese knowledge cannot properly understand a large part of the game.

The problem also affects gameplay, not only the story.

Menus, tutorials, abilities, quests, character information, and other systems can be difficult to understand without Japanese.

I also think this game is worth translating because there are not many games with a concept quite like this.

Yo-kai Watch + Three Kingdoms + tactical RPG is a very unusual combination.

Personally, that is one of the main reasons I think the game deserves a Korean translation.

I'm not asking for it simply because "lots of people want it." I think the concept itself makes it an interesting project, and the lack of an official Korean release makes a fan translation the only realistic way for Korean players to experience it in Korean.

What I can do to help

I don't want to make a one-line request and leave all of the work to whoever might be interested.

I have already started looking into the game myself.

I'm currently investigating the game's files and working with existing tools to extract and work with its text data. I'm also trying to understand how the game's data is structured and how translated text could eventually be put back into the game.

I can contribute to the project in several ways.

Testing

I can play through the game and test translated builds on actual Nintendo 3DS hardware.

I can check whether Korean text appears correctly in-game, whether text boxes fit properly, whether anything is cut off, and whether menus and other systems continue to work correctly.

Proofreading and Korean localization

I can help review the Korean translation and make sure it reads naturally rather than feeling like a literal translation.

I can also help keep terminology consistent throughout the game.

Korean Yo-kai Watch community

There is still an active Korean Yo-kai Watch community, and I can share the project there.

As the translation progresses, I can share screenshots and progress updates with the community, and potentially organize people who are interested in helping with testing and proofreading.

This could allow more Korean players to try the translation during development and report issues that might otherwise be missed.

For example, they could find:

  • Untranslated text
  • Awkward Korean wording
  • Spelling mistakes
  • Broken Korean characters
  • Text overflowing outside text boxes
  • Formatting problems
  • Incorrect or inconsistent terminology
  • Translation issues that only become obvious when the text is seen in its actual gameplay context
I think sharing progress with the community throughout development could help produce a more accurate and polished final result, rather than waiting until the very end to discover problems.

Additional testers

I can also organize additional Korean testers from the community.

Instead of relying on only one person to test everything, I would like to have multiple people play different parts of the game and report problems.

Having several testers should make it easier to catch mistakes and improve the overall quality of the translation.

Technical testing

I can continue investigating the game's files and existing extraction/rebuilding tools and help test different approaches on the technical side.

I may not be able to handle the entire reverse-engineering process myself, but I am willing to continue learning and helping wherever I can.

Previous translation work

I am aware that there has previously been an English fan translation project for Yo-kai Sangokushi, Project Gera Gera, which has been described as being on hiatus.

I'm not requesting another English translation.

This request is specifically for a Korean fan translation.

Existing research, tools, and knowledge from previous translation work could potentially make a Korean project more practical than starting completely from zero.

Why I'm making this request

I really like Yo-kai Watch, and while looking into the series and its different games, I happened to discover that Yo-kai Sangokushi existed.

At first, I was simply curious because I had never played it before. The idea of combining Yo-kai Watch with the Three Kingdoms setting immediately caught my attention, so I started looking into the game more seriously.

After learning more about it, I wanted to actually play the game for myself.

The problem was that the game was never released in Korean, and my Japanese isn't good enough to comfortably experience the entire game.

That eventually led me to look into whether the game could be translated.

I started investigating the game's files myself and looking into the existing tools and resources used for working with the game. The more I learned about it, the more I became interested in seeing a proper Korean fan translation become a reality.

So this request isn't coming from someone who saw the game for five minutes and simply wants someone else to translate it.

I genuinely became interested in the game because I am a Yo-kai Watch fan, and I would like to be able to experience this particular game properly in Korean.

I understand that a complete fan translation is much bigger than simply editing a few text files.

Reverse-engineering, text extraction, reinsertion, font support, translation, testing, and proofreading can take a significant amount of time.

That's why I'm hoping that someone with experience in 3DS reverse-engineering, ROM hacking, or fan translation might see this game and find it interesting enough to work on.

I can contribute the Korean-side work that I am capable of doing, including playing, testing, proofreading, localization feedback, community coordination, and organizing additional Korean testers.

I also think that being able to share development progress with an existing Korean Yo-kai Watch community could be useful. More people would be able to test the translation, provide feedback, and help identify problems during development.

I know a project like this could take months, and I'm completely fine with that.

I'm not asking for an immediate translation.

I would just really like to see Yo-kai Sangokushi become playable in Korean someday, and I'm willing to help make that possible.

Thanks for reading.
