I just finished listening to it today while driving. It was very interesting! I liked hearing your opinions about everything and it was pretty well-done. You did forget to mention one awesome game, though: Kingdom Hearts 3D

I certainly wouldn't mind guest-staring in an episode in the future. I don't exactly have a ton of credentials, but I have a LOT of gaming experience, probably more than Scott (and I do research on it constantly), and I also have a blog where I review things from time to time (on my profile) (right now it's kinda barren because I was busy gaming [ahem, "procrastinating"] during summer). I know I'm not an active member of the community in the sense that I don't post very often, but I've been reading more than I've been posting so it irons out a bit. If you have any more questions you can contact me

I can't believe I forgot to mention KH 3D!! That's one of the games I'm most looking forward to!

Thanks for the actual criticism. A lot of it is just "This is too long".

I enjoyed listening to the show but as already mentioned it was too long. I felt that as the show went along the quality of the conversation dropped overall (this could have been as a result of multiple reasons - the people, the length, the topic(s), myself etc.)

Its all well and good saying that we can listen to it in smaller chunks but I also listened to two episodes of cagcast in a row whilst at work and it didn't have as hard a time of keeping me interested. Perhaps I'm mor used to the members of that show? Perhaps it was because they focused on a wider range of topics within a similar length of time? This isn't me saying that the show was BAD because it certainly wasn't but its hard not to compare it with the 'professionals' and also I do hope/believe that as time goes by the episodes improve which is why we're trying to make POTENTIAL flaws clear to you.

Even if what everything you say is right you have to keep in mind that the shows are made primarily for this community, and if the majority says its too long, its too long. Of course its early days, do as you feel is best but if this complaint is constantly being thrown at you, you should consider trying things out a little differently.

This is comparable to writing a 30,000 word essay that could have been written in 5,000. No matter low long it takes you to read it you're still going to have to read through the unnecessary parts. And even if there is some unecessary content within the shorter essay at least its easier to sit through.

As an fyi I actually listened to your show in three sessions throughout the day (differing lengths I can only presume) as certain tasks were thrown at me that required my undevidied attention.iiooo

EDiT - I've changed my post around a little so I hope you see the changes

Wow shut up dude you don't even know what you're talking about.

Just kidding of course

, but I definitely like the idea of recording it once and releasing it in two parts. Even though at the end of the day, it is pretty much the same thing, it does somehow make it better. Or something. And not to shut you guys up with your feedback, but I definitely have noted the length of the show as being a problem by now
smile.gif
! Does anyone have any other commentary? Do you actually like the idea of the show? Any suggestions for topics?

The fact that you're even getting this much of a response shows you that a) people are interested, b) people are making the time to listen and c) they've taken the time to tell you what can be improved upon. That's a pretty great thing, even if the feedback is something you don't want to hear. If you take an hour and a half show and break it into two parts, you're still not listening to the people -- you're being bull-headed, and it will cause people to not bother with your version of the tempcast any more. We currently live in a time where a three minute youtube video is not enough to hold someone's attention -- you have to be very compelling, with an interesting range of topics and interesting things to comment about them to keep people interested longer than that. Dice is absolutely right -- you're making this podcast for GBAtemp -- if GBAtemp tells you it's too long, it's too long. Don't continually swat that away as if we're retarded -- we'd like to see this succeed. If you want to go making super long podcasts on your own time without any GBAtemp support, you're more than welcome to -- nobody is keeping you from expanding your dreams of overlong podcasts on your own.

You have to think of something else as well (this is usually in the forefront of the mind of comic strip writers). That is that not everyone will listen to your podcasts when you release them. Some people let them build until they have the time to listen, which might be say, five collected together. At an hour and a half apiece, that person has seven and a half hours of content to chew through -- which they probably won't, because they don't have that much time to dedicate, they'll fall behind, and ignore your podcast altogether. If they were say, half an hour, that's only two and half hours to catch up on -- much more digestible. (Comic strip writers take into account that some people will read their comics in collections, and therefore will consume an entire story arc in a much shorter time than intended.)

Aside from that, the idea for the show is fine -- look at the comments you're receiving. More than 3 people are listening. That's a good job, because you already have more people listening to the tempcast than there were before. As far as topics go, that's completely up to you. Look at what's happening in the news and find some interesting things to talk about. The 3DS with Nintendo's upcoming conference and Vita with its explosion of new games are both topics of interest to the community, and they'll be in the news a lot -- there's a ton to talk about right there. Unhackable (permanently) PSP-3000 models are about to get a permanent patch. The 360 just got a new method of opening up homebrew. It's not too hard to find things of interest to GBAtemp, and provide commentary. Don't provide tutorials on how to DO those things, talk about the implications of what they'll allow, some cool things you can do, even what it means to the industry. It's all up to you. It's all about YOUR comments, YOUR feelings, YOUR opinions. That's what creates interest and discussion.

Yeah, I hope you don't take me wrong, but I don't blame you if you do, I don't know how to argue/debate without coming off as being offended/butthurt.

I think this is my main point, but I am bad at expressing it. Or I'm just wrong. Probably a little of both. An 80 minute podcast is not that long compared to the average length of others. I think the main problem is people though me and the other hosts were boring, and that is why the show was uninteresting. On top of that, the show dragged on, which made it super hard to keep interest as it went on. So to repeat, what I'm taking in from this all is that the main problem was the QUALITY of the topics, BUT, the length of the show sort of....multiplied the suck. Maybe I'm still understanding this wrong, please correct me if I am.

What I originally intended this show to be as a round-table discussion about one topic, and talking a lot about it. Not so much news, that's Terminator's job with his show. So for example, the topics you discussed are not really my flavor of things to discuss, because it's all news. Examples of what I have in mind are Piracy, history of handheld/console systems, talking about the future of mobile gaming(Smartphones vs. Dedicated Systems). Things Terminator might briefly talk on his show if a report comes out about how the dedicated handheld market share is falling to Smartphones, but maybe for a few minutes. On my show, that topic may come up and we'll dedicate a whole show to that one topic. It isn't required to be recent events though, and I actual prefer it not to be, cause that is another show's job. The main thing is that I don't want to cut out any discussion because it might go too long. For example, the 3DS show talked about our opinions of the past, present, and future opinions of the system as a whole, and I could have cut our past opinions because they aren't interesting, but then we aren't discussing everything about the console. Anyway, blah blah blah.

What I meant in my post that you quoted is this, I have heard you loud and clear about the quality and length of the show. Obviously it is the biggest flaw stopping this show from being very enjoyable, and I absolutely am going to look into what we can do to change this into a shorter format with more dense content/discussion. Thank you for your feedback, seriously, I don't want to make it seem like I don't want criticism because it offends me, and I realize I may type this way, but that's because I'm horrible at communication at times. I would love to hear more criticism about the actual content and format of the show now, just so I can address those. Which is why that last post may have read "shut up, I don't want to hear anymore", but that isn't at all what I meant. I love you lilsypha, I hope you never ever doubt that. We have something special between you and me, and I never want to do anything to damage that.

I don't know why you can't talk about current things as well, yes we'll bring them up in my show but we have to move on to other topics, you could go far more in depth on single topics, i don't think it's right to just write off recent events as topics just because we briefly went over it already

Never ruled it out, more or less said it will be the minority of shows.
