I'm feeling somewhat guilty.. Let me elaborate on that statement.

Whilst doing a "OpenSource" firmware project, for the DSX and some research on the R4DS for a similar future project.

I came across what seemed to be the manufacturer's of the R4DS.

http://www.usbpob.com/introo.asp?BigClassN...any&tu=company2

This large organization is producing the R4DS on a truly massive scale (some 50,000 pcs per month, look at bottom of page).

Now here's where the "guilt" trip comes in.
How can we compare the performance of say a small team of modders like TeamXodus/DSX to a large well run and funded organization like Reday. Phrase's like TeamR4DS and TeamXodus are unfair they imply both teams are sorta equal, "TeamR4DS!" hides the fact that this is a large commercial organisation. Just look at the design of the R4DS it screams of low cost, mass production and profit!

In this light I think the Re-Review on GBATemp of the DS-X is little unfair in places. But... only if the DSX team can prove they have not abandoned the DS Xtreme?

Anyone else got any thoughts on this? Would love to hear your views.

since when did the R4DS team hide the fact they're a large company?

I can tell you that the DS-X team did (and still does) hide the fact they're an incompetent bunch of liars

Vice-Visa Since when did they openly divulge that fact!, and surely TeamR4DS is a missleading term... so who are the F$$cking lairs?

fair point on competence, though...

umm... I don't know if they ever said "hey, we're a large company lolz"
it's just incredibly easy to figure out when you look at how many carts they have sold/continue to sell and how fast their updates come out.
they never claimed to be a ma and pa's flash cart, if you ever thought they were trying to give that impression- that's your fault.

Ah but they do TeamR4DS is implying you are a small team like TeamXodus....

The Reday Corp.. is what they should be referred as..

Dunno, but maybe "TeamR4DS" is the core team of programmers/developers?

EDIT: Fuck that lol. Don't care if it's misleading people (which is a rare case imo)... anywho, ignore my comment. I shouldn't care about DSX either.

ALSO: DS XTREME!

The re-review of the DSX,

(even from Chinese based teams - as opposed to Team DS-X being based in Europe).

Is why its mentioned, its not a like for like comparison.

The contantly used term TeamR4DS is very, very missleading... IMO.

Again there is no "TeamR4DS" its Reday Corp, its misleading.....

There is no small Ma/Pa team its a big money making organization, not modders.. Makes it more palitable when buying a "TeamR4DS!"/Reday Corp product. The flashcard thing came out of the modders industry and phrases line "TeamR4DS" hides the big business B.S.

Good or Bad?
50,000 units per month Mmmm... whats that going to do to the NDS viabilty.. who knows..

Heh well looky here. Looks like the same company manufacture the R4, M3 Real and DSTT.

untitled-3.jpg

EDIT: Just noticed it says under DSTT "A new kind of R4 DS". It's no wonder so many people were saying the DSTT was the natural evolution to the R4...

EDIT2: So R4DS SDHC is basically DSTT. Glad that one was cleared up. Just why didn't they tell us this? It's like they don't want us to know! EVIL ORGANIZATION ALERT

Oh noez! They're going on with their evil plan to drop the R4 support and make people buy again another economic-but-supported flashcart... which is also produced by them!

Damn, SDL2 for the Wii sucks more than SDL1.2
  • nitr8 @ nitr8:
Porting the DOS classic BLOOD to the Wii using SDL2 is more horrible than the other way around
  • nitr8 @ nitr8:
While it's possible to run the game in fullscreen mode on the Wii using SDL1.2, it doesn't work this way using SDL2. One would have to switch screen resolution 320x240 to 640x480 to make it look like fullscreen mode but then the game would run really slow...
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@nitr8, I've noticed how Blood only takes up a small portion of the screen due to how it fits in the intended screen resolution.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
One would have to make several changes to the code to ensure that it fills the entire screen.
  • nitr8 @ nitr8:
I went back to the old port I had previously running as it's the only one which was up to complete with sound, music, controls etc.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@nitr8, How long have you worked on this port, just this year?
  • nitr8 @ nitr8:
...and I'm currently playing it - no crash so far. If I could, I'd live-stream
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Or play through it until you encounter a bug or so.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
You should maybe hire beta/alpha testers to playtest your game while you continue to update the port, but that's up to you.
  • nitr8 @ nitr8:
I have been working on BLOOD for the Wii for a few weeks but that was 2 years ago until I noticed that it would randomly crash out of a sudden at some point and I never managed to find the origin of the bug.

@nitr8, Something like an USB Gecko would be extremely helpful for debugging. Not sure if there might be an IDA plugin which can do this wirelessly.
  • nitr8 @ nitr8:
That also was the reason why I never released it to the public. Which btw. is a shame because the game is basically "complete" and ready for release
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@nitr8, If you consider open-sourcing this, then I'm sure somebody could point out the bugs for you in the repository, such as walking through step-by-step on what it's doing.
  • nitr8 @ nitr8:
I have 2 USB Gecko's. I'm using one for debug printout messages while I use the second one for realtime debugging within Eclipse where I make changes to the code

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@nitr8, Ah good, having two is always handy.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Not sure why you'd want to, but it's a good thing at least.
  • nitr8 @ nitr8:
You need two if you want realtime-debugging AND debug printout at the same time. The problem is that GDB (the GNU debugger) needs a connection over a serial port while the other one also needs a connection over a serial port. You cannot send debugging commands and printout messages over the same port. It just wouldn't work. I've tested this.
