The important things on switch, are that will have the classics nintendo's series like mario and zelda (and pokemon)

heh, we already have enough consoles and plataforms to play our emulated games if that's what you are saying,..

but from a handheld perspective, the Switch is a miracle.
i don't know the switch specs but i am sure my current phone\tablet is way much powerfull than it..
it's just missing the joycons and a dock..

what would impress me is nintendo still giving the never ending battery life
i remember back in the days where i was trying to empty the batteries to put them in the charger while i sleep, so i would have them ready in the morning... and i usually gave up because it was 12 am and i needed to sleep
however, seems that the switch only will last 1 hour of battery..
i know nowadays we have power available everywhere but having the charger plugged all the times the battery is just a backup in case power cut happens

Don't forget the Switch is both a portable and a home console. The processor runs slower in handheld/tabletop mode, but in TV mode the performance is similar to the Xbox One.
It has less TFLOPs than the Xbox One, but NVIDIA GPUs are faster per FLOP.

It may be an underpowered home console, but from a handheld perspective, the Switch is a miracle. Compare to the 3DS. You can't expect a current gen handheld to possess the same power as a dedicated home console from companies who've been leading the industry in power for a decade.

I can see your point. If it's a hybrid console, halfway between a home console and handheld, then the Switch has well situated specs indeed.
Now where's the problem then ? Why are so many people (here and in other places) comparing it as a home console mainly ?

In my opinion, it's simply because of the games. What do we have as of now :
-Zelda BOTW - Originally a Wii U game that ended up on both consoles. Home console
-Splatoon 2 - Sequel to a Wii U game. Home console
-Mario Kart 8 rehash - ... - Home console port
-1,2 Switch and Arms - Both give me a Wii party game feel more than anything else. (arguably) Home console
-Skyrim - Home console
- Mario Odyssey - From what we've seen looks like a great ope-world Mario - Home console
-FIFA - Home console
-SMT - no real info yet
-DQ - no real info yet
.... (I'm probably forgetting some, don't bash Ninty boys please)
Do note that when I'm writing it as home console, I am not by any means saying they are going to play badly when using the Switch as a handheld (for example I think Mario Kart is a perfect hybrid game).
What I mean is that for most people, all these games will usually be associated to a Home console experience.
It might be because they are ports, because of their graphics and gameplay, or simply because they are a sequel of a previously home console game.
So long as there are no originally pure handheld associated games on the Switch, people are gonna treat it as a home console regardless of specs.

Which is why I believe that if Nintendo wants to see the hybrid thing succeed, they should make a port of one of their handheld IPs.
And this is where I wonder, where the fuck are Pokémon and Monster Hunter at ? Like honestly Ninty ?
The Switch literally looks like the perfect device for those series. And it would actually be a good game to justify monthly online subscription.
I don't hate Nintendo, but I could take a dumpster on their planning and marketing brains.

TL,DR: Nintendo should make/announce more games (preferably handheld associated), otherwise I see another flop coming.

Perhaps, but how much did those smart devices cost you? Nintendo always leans towards value rather than particularly high specs. It's always been their goal to have the most affordable console of the generation.

Borderland's dev said that Nintendo sorta backed down between talks of getting their games on the Switch. Nintendo is getting the third party games that they want on the Switch. It's just not the AAA games that some gamers are so hyped about. Nintendo is trying to get back the gamers that they lost to mobile not the diehard Sony and Microsoft fans.

With this whole "underpowered" discussion happening... anyone else surprised it's running an updated version of Skyrim? I remember on the PS3 at the time I thought it looked brilliant. Surely in today's terms, it may be considered underpowered, but damn, it can sure push out some INCREDIBLY gorgeous games.

A developer has finally spoken out.
Titanfall 2 senior designer Mohammad Alavi recently spoke with Drunk Tech Review about Nintendo Switch, saying that he likes the console but noted that it is very under-powered compared to the PS4 and Xbox One. When he was asked whether or not Titanfall 2 would ever come to the Nintendo Switch, he replied with a very definitive “F*** no! You’re not going to be able to fit Titanfall 2 on the Nintendo Switch.”
your bias is showing.

It's looking like they're using the HD version that was released less than 6 months ago, rather than the older original version. Though it is a bit lower on details than ps4/xbox1.

Gamers caring about graphics over great gameplay? Go watch a movie if you're more interested in photo realistic computer generated scenes. Oh, that's what most games from Sony and Microsoft are now - just interactive movies. Sony knows that in a discussion of gaming innovation and game design they can't win toe-to-toe with Nintendo that's why they changed the values in games from gameplay to graphics. Because you have to admit that upping graphics is way easier than upping gameplay. So called AAA games of today are just using rehashed gameplay over 10 years old with extra shine on them.

See I wonder what this actually means, Nintendo backing down from talks getting third-party games on their System. If developers want to port a game for one of Nintendo's platforms, why would they need permission from Nintendo?

Not all third parties. They are just aware of what kind of games they want for the Switch. Apparently, Bordelands is not a priority. Just saying.

That doesn't make sense. Nintendo obviously wants as many third-party games as possible on their system, so why would they disallow or stall releases of games they personally don't like? What is the risk they think they would take?

Not all developers get access to dev kits early enough to develop for a launch window title. If Gearbox studios wants to port their games later on, sure they can.

Power doesn't equal fun.
I have more fun with my Wii U than with my PS4 (And I also enjoy more the Wii U).
Guess what's the most powerful system of the two :glare:
EDIT: If it weren't because Kingdom Hearts III is coming out for the PS4 I'll have already sold it

I didn't know those developers don't have a dev kit. I thought they had one and are simply waiting for some sort of permission from Nintendo. Now it makes sense.

Okay I'm biting. So this is just another console wars discussion wherein only one console has to comeout on top right and it has to be that console you own and that company that you're rooting for. Well if we're talking about a race and raw horsepower the PS4 would win this by a mile. However, this is more like asteriod hits the earth drastic climate change kind of climate in the gaming industry. Xbox One and PS4 are awesome beasts like the dinosaurs but it would be the highly efficient, smart and versatile mammals that would come out on top.

Cant say I agree with you on that.. All I do with my wiiu is play Mario kart 8, but than again all I play is over watch on my ps4. I guess I'm getting bored of consoles. I'll take the pc route pretty soon which has been more affordable than ever interms of price to performance.

Are you drunk ?
First of all you're saying Bloodborne, Nioh, Nier Automata or Horizon: Zero Dawn or Gravity Rush are just interactive films ??? Really ...
And about 10 years old rehashed gameplay with extra shine, have you taken a look at Mario Kart my friend ? No, nothing reminding you of the previous games there.
How far will your fanboy-ism make you go.

I only play GTA V's director mode (and occasionally LBP3 with my brother) on my PS4, but I play NSMBU, SM4SH, MK8, Wii Sports Club... on my Wii U

Of course, not all of them get one

Thanks for listing the exceptions. These are not the kind of games that are filling the Xbox One and PS4 libraries. I did say most games by Sony and Microsoft. By the way Horizon: Zero Dawn isn't out yet and Guerrila Games said that it's the most risky proposition of all that they had in development. If you've been playing Mario Kart since the SNES days you'd know how many experiments in gameplay Nintendo has tried in the Mario Kart series.
