Ive managed to boot into RCM now, so not sure what the issue was.. however I now get this on screen (sd card isnt in the switch at this point as im copying my NAND to my pc)

Lol CFW exists on the SD card. If your SD card isn't inserted, you cannot boot CFW.

I have a NAND backup, sadly it isn't "clean". What is the most reliable way to safely clean my NAND before attempting to go online? I know it's never fully safe if I've already ran CFW, but I'd still like to give it a try.

I've read a few solutions such as using ChoiDujourNX's factory reset as well as cleaning the emmc in hacdiskmount. Neither of these worth doing?

Not that I would ever personally recommend.

I accidentally updated like a moron (thought the update button when launching a game updated the game) and now when pushing the payload it shows welcome to atmosphere and then nothing. Did I brick my switch or do I need to just wait for atmosphere to be updated?

You have to wait unless you have a NAND backup to restore from.

Yeah it would. It would basically put you back at the point you were when you made the backup.

Hey so I'm planning on using emunand to stay offline and install NSPs there, but i read that installing NSPs would make them appear on the sysNand isnt that risky of getting me banned since i want to use sysnand to play my legit games online

If you install them in EmuNAND, they don't appear in SysNAND.

can i install emunand, use games and leave my ofw on a low version until i decide if i want to play online or not? will making an official update to latest firmware my emunand somehow unusable?

If I have auto rcm on how do i boot into CFW ? is it just power on? or do I need to hold any buttons? When i hold power nothing hapens so I assume it goes into RCM.

I was offline when I hit update so did it really update? I mean I still have the black screen when I inject fusee for atmosphere after all.

I guess its safe to assume it probably did update even though I swore I was offline. But I had went online a bit before that so maybe nintendo can send the update files....
