In their teaser trailer it looks like they're comparing the Switch2 to the original Switch. At first I thought it was a little disingenuous but I guess that makes sense since it looks like the Switch2 will have an LCD at launch probably to keep costs down.

100% they will release a refreshed model at somepoint.

As soon as I saw the bezel it reminded me why I dislike first gen tech releases.

The bezels get smaller over time, the screens get bigger and better, but it still feels like they’re going backwards not having an OLED option day one after pushing it this hard for so long on the previous gen.

It can only be to keep costs down at launch, but still, as mentioned it’s the double-dip mentality.

I probably won’t get one for a while, unless I sell my Steam Deck. But I definitely want one.

I don't think that switch 2 is better than switch 2. The gimmick the switch has - is already used in a lot of handhelds, maybe only variations(connection to tv via HDMI, or Dock).
The switch 2 is better in hardware, but it's BIGGER than switch 2.Switch 2 is inferior to switch only in size.

That post being in reply to the quoted bit about Switch 2 having an LCD screen at launch. They want people to buy one at launch out of FOMO and then trade-in or just eat the cost of an inevitable Switch 2 OLED model. Sorry if that was unclear.

I just noticed, sorry!

Super fucking lame if true, and I don't think it's to keep costs down. It's an attempt at getting early adopters to double-dip again.
The thing is that we don't know yet, all we got are the renders from the leaks and reveal in terms of the general design + that image of the two side-by-side with a Mario Wonder screenshot superimposed on it and the main motherboard leak, only way to know is if we do get more details.

True, we can't know for sure, but the screen bezels shown in the teaser certainly look a lot closer to the thickness of original Switch than Switch OLED. Kinda reduces the wow factor of a bigger screen in general when it's obvious they could've added another half to full inch.

I own both the OG Switch and OLED. While OLED is nicer with the more vibrant display and smaller bezels, the original Switch is still perfectly fine. If this has LCD it won't be an issue for me.

There is no reliable source about the screen technology. Of course there will be refreshed models later, though Nintendo is not known for running backwards about technology.

I think they' are using the launch Switch for its iconic design, but also because of the bigger gap of design between this model and the Switch 2. The OLED Switch design is still very reliable in 2025.
