I updated using a 8GB Transcend and it was fine. It definitely depends on what SD you use. If it's a good brand there shouldn't be any trouble.

8 minutes is quite a long time compared to the quick upgrade of Acekard 2i. o.o;

yeah.. is a little too long (mine was 7 minutes)
during the process the LED will keep blinking
once it is done it will be green

just like the instruction

after that my SCDS1i become STAR WARS LETHAL ALLIANCE

Mine only took around 4 minutes to update. (The should have gone with one of the pirate nds totle games (I sure hope M3 will do that

It had to be changed because there is a whitelist for old games. I think new games are signed so they don't need to be added to a whitelist and you can't sign it yourself without the impossible to brute force key. No one figured out the RSA key for DS download play games, they had to patch the DS firmware so it ignores the signature. Nintendo did screw up the signature checking on the Wii but I doubt they did the same on the DSi.

The Star Wars icon suits Supercard since they had a Boba Fett bounty hunter picture on their slot-2 cards.
