Hacking Supercard DSONE Pokemon Soul Silver Cheat?

My son has the Supercard DSOne for the Nintendo DS Lite and has been playing Pokemon Soul Silver for a while but it stuck in the game. I've read online that many people use "Cheats" to get additional Pokeballs and items. What do I need to do in order to turn on and utilize the cheats so he can get additional pokeballs and items needed to proceed in the game?

Is this just software to turn on? Is there hardware that I need? Do I need a DSTwo card instead and no other software?

Please help--he's a 6-year old and keeps asking. Thanks.

First off, you need to visit http://cheats.gbatemp.net/ and get the latest usrcheat.dat file.
Then, you need to put that file in the /_dsone folder on the microSD card.

After that, there should be some sort of interface option on the rom selection screen, that'll let you select cheats.

Thanks. I put the file onto the DS Lite but now how do you actually get the cheat options to work? Is there a button sequence that I need to press?
