Though, it seems their coder deleted his code because he was afraid of getting charged. Dunno if that's another April Fools joke

I hope it is

Just thought I'd mention this here, it's currently impossible to register on the forums, what's up with that? It seems that there is a syntax area in the registration field that doesn't allow you to register because the captcha box is not shown.

I just turned it off, try again: Now it should not even ask for that

Works like a charm, thank you kind sir~!

Oh, one more question (no need to answer it if you don't feel like it), but are spriters being looked for? I'm for the most part an amateur, but I do have a bit of experience at spriting, and I think I can fix up some of what's there, like Mario not actually 'running', but walking kinda fast.

Yes, spriters and coders and anyone is always welcomed. Go to the forum, check our sprites (they use to be in the Character Development topics) and see what is missing and post there about helping to be sure no one is doing them (so there's no waste of time)

Ugh, i have a feeling eventually nintendo will shut this down, if you make a homebrew you keep it on the down low or you announce it but give no contact information (A.k.a you tell someone to post it in the user submitted information) and wait until you can release it to the web, then when you do. Everyone would have it and if it DOES get shut down, if someone needs it, they need only a simple google search for a megaupload link.

LOL

you got me worried

well, I haven't heard of Nintendo shutting a homebrew before, just setting all the stuff to "protect" their consoles

That doesn't matter because it's open source, meaning that even if Nintendo sent a C&D and on top of that forced THEM to get rid of their code, anyone else who 'happens' to have it, can easily restart it under a different name.

Hell another option is to keep a fake forum that's simply a copy of the real forum, those 'servers' can be gotten rid of while keeping the real one and only the people helping in the loop.

I see alot more potential in this then Rumble. Hopefully this gets to some form of completion. Although you guys are barely beginning I have a little advice. Don't make the game too floaty. Trust me when I say your going to want to get the physics as close to Melee as possible or else you'll get every fanboy complaining. And hopefully more then just 3rd party characters will get their own original sprites. Using edited ripped sprites won't look good. Good luck with this.

Yeah, that's the idea, but we still need veteran Melee players (I was never even half good) to help with the physics and variables: We have a Public Programming section for discussion about this

Thanks for the luck

Also, about the sprites, we are discussing whether to try to keep all the sprites with a similar style or not, and this may lead to remaking sprites and make them original therefore

well, we do have loads of old forums (yeah, I keep moving the forum searching for good hosters, but most of all, I'm afraid of Terms of Service *shivers*)

Also, I do expect to try to get each coder understand the code as much as I can get them too, that way, any of them can keep the torch if Nintendo shuts it. I'm still trying to set TRAC. I can set it on a localhost, but not on a real server... it's quite useful for this stuff and keep things documented

BTW, if I had to say a license for Clash, I'd say a WTFPL with NO WARRANTY, Ultimate Freedom + Ultimate lack of responsibility for me

I've noticed you guys are using Free webhosting, so I must make a suggestion, and that is that you either get shared hosting (it's not that expensive, I pay 5.95 for mine without a problem...), or I can set you guys up with a subdomain on my server, but you won't have access to the cPanel, so I'd have to be the one to setup SQL for the server.

Another thing is, I know about the Trac problems and I found out what it is, with shared hosting (typical of ANY free OR cheap hosting) doesn't allow you the proper terminal access for you to install easy_install which is required for Trac. I was told that I'd be able to do it on mine through SSH access, but then when I got SSH access I was further informed that while I could install easy_install, I would not be able to install Trac.

Right now for example, the current setup is...

All links from GBATemp -> ssbclash.boardzero.net (As well as Google)
ssbclash.co.cc -> ssbclash.200gigs.com
Real forums?!?! -> clash.nxserve.net/

This leaves with three forums, and while some stuff from some are copied to others (nxserve is copied to boardzero), they're all leading to each other in a bad sequence.

Boardzero is the most used, but registration is closed and it has a redirect link to go to nxserve. Nxserve says that it's the 'old forums', but also says that 'if you need to know which forum to go to, make sure to just go to ssbclash.co.cc' but that leads you to ssbclash.200gigs.com, which tells you that the correct server is clash.nxserve.net.

Which leads me to believe, which server is it? It's like all over the place. :|

EDIT: Seems I got almost all of that answer from the blog response actually

The boardzero is the one for development mostly, so it's the more active.

The nxserve is the old, it was all copy pasted into the 200gigs one

The 200gigs is not as active nor updated as the boardzero one.

There was a xtreemhost board before also.

And I'll fix this link mess soon, I just copy pasted the forum so that's why the links are still all weird

*Sigh* I really wanted to set Trac up, maybe I'll try in Google Code or SourceForge then.

Also, I learned about Trac thanks to nxserve, so maybe if I tell them, they can set it for me, I'll ask around

Yeah, we use free hosting, cuz I don't feel like getting an international debit card myself (when I buy stuff online, I don't buy it with my card

This is really good to hear. I should stop feeling so excited for this game because I know it will take awhile to finish. Hopefully you guys just go with a style reminiscent of brawl. The sprites for altier and kratos look really good. Maybe something similar.
Once again, good luck.

You can pay for most hosting services with paypal, a check, or in other forms like money orders, but you have to get ready to send the money like two weeks before, so that you're sure it's there on time.

--(Separate, but relevant)

I've noticed some things with that project that although are normal for most projects when they're starting up, can be a problem if they persist most likely.

1. The styles, sizes, and characters are radically different and don't seem to fit in that well with each other. If I were to reference SSB, SSBM, and SSBB you would see that the reason they got it to work is that although they respected the characters origins all of the characters were made on the same media and in a similar fashion by the same team, by keeping the 'team' together you are able to achieve this similarity in characters that make the game 'flow' and you're also able to express things around the table that wouldn't be possible otherwise. Having one person work on one sprite lends itself to less 'flow' later in the design and overall game. It also leads to frustration as things need to be frequently altered that were thought to have been done, parts end up missing from people who have left but contributed, etc, etc.

2. Organization of the forums is a bit... haphazard at the moment, general information for each section should probably be in some sort of sticky with redirects, the threads for content need better organization, I could go on. :S

3. Many things are radically different in style outside of character spriting, such as stages, these are things that change from flash design, to photoshop design, to pixelated design, which is VERY, VERY radical.

4. Some sort of chat room (I suggest IRC) or other media for everyone to talk to each other at the same time for a 'meeting' weekly or biweekly or what have you should be set up to discuss norms, cast votes in polls, and other such things, polls go on for way too long if people just log on to vote when they want to, and when things are just 'posted' as news around the forum not everyone gets to them.

Please don't take this as offensive, as it's not meant to be, it's just that as I approach the forum having dealt with several forums and organizing them I realize that it can be a headache to try and get around and get all of the previous information as it's not stored in any sort of central area at all, whether it be within the subfora (Characters, Stages, etc) or within the main fora (The Game itself).
