Hey oil_, there's an issue with the rewording here, it's kinda old but I hope you can fix it:

usually when you put words like won't or can't the length limit will automatically turn to -1, preventing you from using that word, it works for example with I won't, but not with we won't and such.

hope you can fix that little bug.

No luck. I know Ritchburn (the guy that dumped the script and made the first patch) was able to do it, but I can't manage to understand how the game's scripting language works and it would take lots of time. It's still possible and if I or someone else manages to do it in the future, the long translation is already there to use.

It wasn't actually a bug, the "'t" character combination wasn't in the modified game's font. I fixed it, it works fine now.
 
Dear oil. Hope you read this.

In order to prevent others from ruining the trimming/translation, i hope you can change another website/server or otherwise allow only a certain group of sincere & dedicated people to work on this. Simply allowing random people to contribute is truly slowing down this whole project. I fear with this people around, the project may never achieve its intended purpose.
 
Hey oil, any chance on a beta being released? rewording so far covered most of the prologue so we can see how we have done so far. You could release it in private so no one can upload it. Btw I had an idea, can't you reverse engineer ritchburns patch to see how it works?

Dear oil, I know you are reading this.

You seem to be active on gbatemp but yet not doing anything to improve things within the game. As TLZ mentioned, we hope to see more effort coming from the person hacking the game rather than just leaving it as it is right now. No information on hacking, or any visible effort is seen right now. Makes many of us wonder if our efforts are going down the drain.
 
I would be happy knowing there're screenshots with everything we've translated so far. Also i don't mind searching for other gba hackers
 
Sorry for taking too long to answer, I don't have much free time.
XswordcraftX: It shows me as active because I always have the tab open in my browser with a bunch of other tabs

I made a beta patch but there was a nasty bug in one of my tools and translated files bigger than the originals were overwriting other stuff...
I fixed that but it seems that files get a lot bigger with translation, something I didn't thought was going to happen considering I get better compression than the one the game used. So I'll have to edit what I made to allocate files in a different place and edit the pointer that reference them. I'll do it when I have some free time.

Anyways, here's the beta patch. It'll hang after the first fight because the translated file from that part is overwriting the next one. But as you can see the translation works and once I fix this problem I'll be able to insert the translated text directly from the site with a few clicks (and a wait of like an hour)

So how far along is the project translation-wise? Is it all done and just waiting to be inserted/coded, or still being translated?
 
Whoops, I forgot that I was trying to maintain a secret identity... Oh well.

But to actually answer the question, liamash3, according to the site where translation and trimming is happening, translation's at 99% (the last 1% is honestly just oil_ not having time to go through all the pages to check for untranslated strings) while trimming is at ~60%. So if oil_ could figure out how to break the hard character limits, you'd have the entire game by Christmas.

Though honesty, certain system translations are pretty iffy for the simple fact that I have no clue how they're actually used in-game. (So if you see weird shit when you level up or craft shit, you should take a screencap and post it so I can fix that shit.)

It's nice to hear its so far along though, and here's hoping Oil_ will manage to solve the hard character limit (that'd be an issue in any jap -> eng translation, I'd think...).
 
I tried the Beta Patched Game. It froze right after the first fight. And while writing this, i just realized it was normal and oil_ mentionned it.

But damn.....though i didn't last long and i could very well do this on a unpatched game, it's been great to try the game. It'll be even greater to play it when it'll be translated.
