I think there was a translation project but it died without releasing anything.
Anyway, I started working on this a few days ago and I've uploaded a patch.

No dialogue or anything really fancy. It fixes up the menu so it takes out some of the guessing and memorising.
It also renames some of the weapons, spells and items.

It's not complete yet, but it's mostly just filling in the names of things now. If anyone wants to help that would be great!

I've also started a topic on gamefaqs. Not sure which is preferred.

I find it funny that the thread on gamefaqs is gone now though. Incidentally, I'm DBDjango on there, just so you know. Glad you made the patch though Ritchburn.

Glad you all are enjoying the patch.

In other news, I found out enough about how the script encoding works to get a script dump.
Manipulating it isn't easy though, but small things like the teleporter dialogue can be changed.
It's all pretty manual and tedious right now though.

Thank you for patch. This game is one of my favorites, and I was wanted translation for years. Even though I know Japanese I almoust can't read it, only talk. So still need translation for games.

Is there an update on the progress of the translation I'm sure there are many people out there that would love a dialogue patch for this game

I haven't really been checking this thread recently,
nor working much on the patch, so v5 is basically the latest version.

As I have said before, I figured enough about the script encoding to get a script dump.
I haven't figured out how to resize encoded strings, which is essential to overhauling the dialogue.
This should be possible given some time, some luck, and lots of patience.

Anyway, the project is currently stalled but not quite dead yet.
I would love to have a full translation too, and even just the first day or two would be terrific!

The last post got me working on this thing again.
A teaser (sncsm3v6-pre1.ups):

This is just a demonstration of some dialogue translation. I've only
done the first segment (from the introduction to the first battle) and
the fishing minigame menu.

Basically the tools to manipulate the dialogue are there now, so given
enough time and some creativity with the compression, a full
translation patch should be possible. Fingers crossed.

(Translators are always welcome!)

I don't mean that there's a tool for other people to edit the
dialogue. It's just a few functions in code that will get the job
done. I guess I should fix that in the future. For now, if anyone
would like to help translate some text, I can provide a script dump.

Any udates on the progress of this project, Richburn? Please don't tell us you gave up on this game. :|

Ritchburn, I've seen you're working translating this game. It's really a good work, keep it up!

I was wondering if you could help me dumping the text from the previous ones: Swordcraft Story 1 and 2.

The reason of this is I want to translate them to my language, Spanish, as it wasn't released in Europe. But I'm afraid that the in-game script is compressed.
I was able to find menus, monsters, items and descriptions on a hex editor, but I cannot see any script.

(I had some help at Romhacking.net) http://www.romhacking.net/forum/index.php/topic,11288.0.html

I hope you read this soon.

Thrill:

No updates as yet (no one's offered to translate).

I could just reuse most of Ritchie's text for Rif, but the specific summon
beasts poses a bit of a problem. Someone did Ritchie/Rufeel text in the past,
so that one is okay, but others I assume are vastly different.

Example differences between Ritchie/Rif:

Yup, as you've found Swordcraft Story 1 and 2's scripts are compressed, but the menu is not.
Luckily it looks to be the same as in this game. So just a few random points:

If you just want a script dump, it's not too bad.
If you want to get the text back in the game, it's a bit more trouble.

Do you have any coding experience? Just some very basic stuff is required.
Otherwise, I don't see how you're going to get the text back in.

[Edit: fixed links, but you probably want to view with a fixed width font]
