Suggestions for shoutbox

I might be doing some work on the shoutbox if I can think of things to add to it.
So far I've got

• Detachability
  BBcode IMGs being replaced with a link to the image saying {img}
  Long URLs being replaced with {link}
  A shoutbox post count
  Special name colours for staff
  Putting time and date of shout on mouseover to take up less space

Please give me more ideas!

Get rid of it because
irc > shoutbox

Pages! (like next 20, previous 20, etc). At the moment, you can only scroll to the bottom of the default box, or see all messages all the way back to when the shoutbox was opened. If the comment you're looking for has only just disappeared off the bottom it seems like a waste to load the entire history just for that

On my resolution the bottom bit cuts the next arrows onto the next line (1024x768

)
