Hmm...why am I not at all surprised by the responses (both reader and critical) to the game. I certainly wasn't expecting it to be a bad game, and like Hadrian mentioned, at the very worst critics seem to feel it's merely decent. But I guess in some ways The Conduit is likely to end up the Wii's version of the first Assassin's Creed -- a game way over-hyped that not everyone has a glowing impression of. Honestly, though, High Voltage would have to be the main culprit in creating an atmosphere for disappoint with this game. They aggressively sought attention for their game, and every time they got it, they made a spectacle of what they thought was technically outstanding about their game. To be merely decent in the end is a big fall for such a game.
I still think most young Wii owners who actually buy the game will convince themselves it's amazing. I will say this, though (admittedly having not yet played the game), I DO think it's fair to compare it to other FPSes across platforms, simply because most folks agree, the Wii Remote and Nunchuk still hasn't trumped mouse and keyboard control. As long as you still have those other options, it doesn't necessarily make a Wii FPS a completely unique experience. It's important perhaps for folks who can only game on Wii, sure, but I don't feel an FPS on Wii necessarily deserves some handicap when being reviewed.
