Hey guys.

I'm a huge DDR fan, and Hottest Party with a metal pad for Wii isn't quite cutting it.

How difficult, and which language would be best, for POSSIBLY porting Stepmania 3.95 or OpenITG to Wii? I'm open to ideas, suggestions, and maybe even forming a team to get a fully launchable and customisable StepMania type program, allowing songs and themes via SD/USB/Whatever.

If a full port isn't possible, maybe a simplified version with basic DDR engine using Tantric's Libwiigui?

I hear someone was trying it, but they cancelled due to "legal reasons specific to their team".

Discuss. :3

I've been waiting for this to happen since I've installed the Homebrew Channel on my system.

I already have every DDR song on my HD for StepMania...

Apparently two people have already tried porting. One stopped in fear he would be sued, the other disappeared.

I'm sure whoever developed such a brew would receive high gratitude.

Would love a port of this as well.

As Zombie_Fetus mentioned, two groups have taken a stab at this. The most recent guy (Eric Borbley) has some info up on WiiBrew and a Google Code page (http://code.google.com/p/stepmania-wii/). Hasn't made any progress since earlier this year...however his most recent (from this month) words were encouraging:

I went on vacation from the project for awhile. All this excitement about Wii64 and
System Menu 4.2 has me interested again. Stay tuned!"

Maybe you can team up with him? =)

someone already made a port of stepmania to PSP (but it was completely re-done)
Maybe it will be on the Wii, though it would be hard using a WiiMote.

Nah, not if it lets you use the DPAD and 1 and 2. So like holding sideways, and use Left(up if its normal) and Up(right if its normal) and 1 and 2. Thats how I do it on the PSP Version.

No lies, I would really enjoy a port of StepMania on the Wii. If I recall correctly, a previous push was made to port it, but the developer was asked to stand down by the SM devs due to fair-use issues conflicting with Nintendo software copyrights (in my opinion, the fact that you're writing a StepMania port for use on home-modified, illegally-operating Wiis should overrule this, but whatevs).

A StepMania application with USB song loading and support for Gamecube and USB pads would be awesome. I personally own a couple of RedOctane Ignition 3.0's and a homemade wood/metal pad that operates on a PSX controller port (or USB with adapter and drivers, which might be a concern but should be feasible on the Wii). Not having to drag my laptop to the living room to play DDR would be a blast.
