Hey,

i didn't know where to put this because is don't know what causes the problems, so i made a new thread.

I'm using switchroot with android 10 and its working quite good, though i haven't used much. i installed Steam Link because the idea to play Steam games on my Switch sounded really nice. I set it up through WiFi and everything works fine, performance is really good and there is not even input lag that i can feel. There is only one problem, as soon as i switch off the monitor on my PC, the FPS on Switch drop to like <10. When i keep the monitor on, everything works fine, but since the PC is already running i'd like to at least switch off the monitor while playing remote.

Anyone got an idea what causes this and how to fix it? Anyone using steam link and has not such problems? Any help appreciated.

You're not saving much power by turning off the monitor anyway, and you could just turn it off using Windows even if it's not exactly the same thing.

well saving power is one thing, but another is i'd like to use it to play steam games on my switch on my sofa and its really confusing watching everything happen on my computer display at the same time.

it's really strange there doesn't seem to be a software solution to this, it seems you cant force the GPU to perform if the display is off.

Does this only happen with Steam Link? Did you try Moonlight?
No, i haven't tried anything else, because i only know of steam_link.

when i googled for moonlight i found a github but with this note:
This is currently in an utterly unusable state, since Nintendo Switch homebrew do not yet have access to the hardware video decoder (as of this writing).

That sounds like a complaint about the native Switch HOS port, the Android version fares much better due to proper hardware acceleration for video. You can also use the official NVidia Games app for streaming from your PC; it has a few less features than the Moonlight app but it seems more stable IMO since most of the settings are calculated automatically and it can adjust the bitrate for throttling issues.

You mean on the switch android i just download the NV App through the playstore? does this work for all games on PC? even outside of steam? then it would be even better.

It works for non-Steam games but you still have to add them in GeForce Experience, so you may as well add your games as non-Steam games to Steam as Big Picture is a much nicer GUI for launching games IMO, even when you use GameStream/Moonlight.

Your GPU probably requires a headless HDMI/display port adapter. Some/most graphics cards will not operate if there is no monitor attached.
I think that is a Nvidia specific issue and affects every Nvidia gpu, besides maybe Quadro.

thanks, i'm going to try the nvidia streaming first, maybe when using something from nvidia, the GPU stays active. if not, then i guess there is no other way than one of those adapter things. but i wanna be sure first.
