Of course, they're going to lump together "piracy" and "cheating" with "homebrew".

You need a homebrew scene before you can say you're hacking a console to play homebrew on it. The PS3 doesn't have one, at least not one that's actually any good. Just checking any websites that provide PS3 homebrew is evidence enough - there's nothing besides "homebrew" that reverts PS3s to older firmwares, backup managers, methods for accessing game updates and DLC without using PSN, get other people's PS3s banned by pretending that your PS3 has the same System ID... I could go on, really, but what's the point? The "homebrew" scene on the PS3 isn't exactly what I'd call brimming with awesome games and applications.

Anyone who says they're hacking their PS3 just to play homebrew is lying through their teeth. Does anyone on this site buy flashcarts for their DS just to play StillAlive DS? Didn't think so. Piracy and cheating are the main reasons for hacking any console and the PS3 is no different - trying to act like it is really just gives certain kinds of people an excuse to use.

So yeah, please give me a good reason why Sony shouldn't lump piracy and cheating together with "homebrew".

Excuse me, but fuck you. This is the second time I have seen you say this. Just because YOU wouldn't use the PS3 for home brew doesn't mean everyone else is just like YOU.

The PS3 homebrew scene is growing at a VERY fast clip whether you realize it or not. When I had my PS3, I did only hack it for homebrew. Call me a liar on here all you want to, but not everyone is so immoral that they need to play pirated games if at all possible.

If you can consider that a profit, I guess, but the real profit for the company is in selling games.

piracy + cheating + homebrew = Anti-Piracy by Sony ?

-sigh-

it makes sense though . . .
homebrew can generally by made and used so that cheating and piracy is possible . i don't blame them , but they make it sound like homebrew is so evil . they can be evil , if used in the wrong hands . and in their eyes , the only purpose of homebrew is for cheating and piracy .

What he means is that they sell on a loss each PS3 Slim but bank in on software sales. Eventually the software sales covered the hardware sales gap and they've been making a profit ever since (which would be last June apparently).

But it seems pretty no-brainer for any company to make an anti-piracy department.

So they consider people making homebrew, games made by users, "hackers" or "cheaters" because they lose money because we are better at making good games than they are?

What kind of thing is this?

Are you dense or just majorly incapable of reading?

"homebrew applications to run pirated software"

Also, most homebrew games are completely terrible. They usually look like shit, play like shit and are generally all around unappealing. That's pretty far from being "better at making good games" considering most of them aren't even fit to be proof of concepts.

Yes, if you have read any other post, I can read, so think twice before telling someone that.

"Homebrew applications to run pirated software" isn't always true. People don't always make homebrew to play pirated software, so nudge off a bit, why don't you?
If you think homebrew is meant for using pirated games, you are in the wrong forum.

its pure hardware profit, 45nm tech in the cell cpu, cheaper to produce

right now they only cost $240 to make so they make $60 off of each one, the version before that used to cost somewhere between $400-450 to make

WOW! They should be happy about piracy then! $60 each?

Read this: LINK

Note: All your info, and all my info are based on purely speculation, since Sony does not present actual figures. Only thing is clear though, Sony does not rely on its console to make a profit. Think of how much it has lost from it, and how much it has generated from games.

that articles date is almost a year before the new hardware cost reduction

And oddly enough, it uses the exact same figures you used. Hmm.
This is all speculation. I guarantee you though that Sony does not make 60 bucks for each ps3, nor most (or even a sig portion) of its profits.

The OP says nothing about "homebrew games" being the reason they're calling people who use homebrew "hackers" and "cheaters. It specifically states homebrew that is used for running pirated games (which right now is probably the majority of it). Ergo, you cannot read. Enjoy being butthurt about an issue that doesn't exist.

edit: "“Circumvention devices and game piracy damage our industry and can potentially injure the online experience for you, our loyal PlayStation customers, via hacks and cheats,”"

edit 2: and the fact you have the audacity to say every homebrew game is better than any PS3 game? jesus christ you are dense.
