You need a homebrew scene before you can say you're hacking a console to play homebrew on it. The PS3 doesn't have one, at least not one that's actually any good. Just checking any websites that provide PS3 homebrew is evidence enough - there's nothing besides "homebrew" that reverts PS3s to older firmwares, backup managers, methods for accessing game updates and DLC without using PSN, get other people's PS3s banned by pretending that your PS3 has the same System ID... I could go on, really, but what's the point? The "homebrew" scene on the PS3 isn't exactly what I'd call brimming with awesome games and applications.
Anyone who says they're hacking their PS3 just to play homebrew is lying through their teeth. Does anyone on this site buy flashcarts for their DS just to play StillAlive DS? Didn't think so. Piracy and cheating are the main reasons for hacking any console and the PS3 is no different - trying to act like it is really just gives certain kinds of people an excuse to use.
So yeah, please give me a good reason why Sony shouldn't lump piracy and cheating together with "homebrew".

If you can consider that a profit, I guess, but the real profit for the company is in selling games.Joe88 said:will people please stop spreading these false facts aroundSephxus said:Sony makes money by selling games, and actually loses money for each ps3 that is sold.

What kind of thing is this?

Are you dense or just majorly incapable of reading?
"homebrew applications to run pirated software"
Also, most homebrew games are completely terrible. They usually look like shit, play like shit and are generally all around unappealing. That's pretty far from being "better at making good games" considering most of them aren't even fit to be proof of concepts.

What he means is that they sell on a loss each PS3 Slim but bank in on software sales. Eventually the software sales covered the hardware sales gap and they've been making a profit ever since (which would be last June apparently).

right now they only cost $240 to make so they make $60 off of each one, the version before that used to cost somewhere between $400-450 to make

And oddly enough, it uses the exact same figures you used. Hmm.Joe88 said:that articles date is almost a year before the new hardware cost reduction

Yes, if you have read any other post, I can read, so think twice before telling someone that.![]()
"Homebrew applications to run pirated software" isn't always true. People don't always make homebrew to play pirated software, so nudge off a bit, why don't you?
If you think homebrew is meant for using pirated games, you are in the wrong forum.
