Guys just stop. Your 'trolling' makes Sop's look good.

Which it isn't.

Machomuu, stop feeding them. They're just 12 year olds, and newfags at that.

On topic, I just think people are dicks. You hacked them once, twice, leave them alone now. We get your point. You're pissed off. Just go back to your basements and leave Sony alone.
I agree, it's getting to the point where it's becoming truly detrimental to the company where they really don't deserve it.

It has gotten to the point of ridiculousness. I just want to play games, and use Sony's services without the 'risk' of it going down again.

I agree. I think that the moment Anonymous announced the DDOS attacks, the other Hackers started working.

Because Sony pissed off the hacking community with it's strong-armed and borderline-illegal methods. Now if only the hacking community would focus their knowledge on hacking the 3DS....

A company as large as Sony should expect to have hacking attempts on a regular basis. All these successful hacks might finally force Sony to stop slacking on their security.

I agree. I think that the moment Anonymous announced the DDOS attacks, the other Hackers started working.

DDoS attacks aren't hacking dawg. A DDoS attack in no way means that Sony is easy to hack, just that their servers aren't good at taking the heavy stress of thousands upon thousands of instant requests. DDoS is about as far from hacking as something considered an attack online can get. If I was hacker, I wouldn't think that all because Sony could be hit by a DDoS attack successfully meant that their server sucked. With the two not being related in the least, it would be a fairly ridiculous assumption.

In not wanting to read through the past few pages in their entirety; for those saying Sony deserved it, they didn't and don't. Sony may have fucked up, but you need to learn where to place the blame. It would have never been an issue had the hackers not made it a point to steal the information. As it stands, nothing has happened in over a month in regards to the information, so it's debatable whether the people actually got all useful information, or if they are just scared of trying to use it.

What people also need to realize is that nobody is unhackable. Praise Microsoft all you want, but at any time, a hacker could easily make it a point to bring the company to its knees. There are always people that know where the holes are, and how to exploit them to the maximum. Ignorance, as fun as it is, is stupid to rely on time and time again. If you want to say getting hacked means you have bad security, then you better tell the US government to create some unstoppable security with the Pentagon being breached by hackers more than once.

Well unless it is a 0-day, there are only a finite amount of hacks that can be done once Sony finally upgrades to secure software across the board, which they are being forced to do. By hacking Sony to death now, it will turn Sony into one of the most ironclad and secure platforms on the web. I'm sure any intelligent hacker has already come up with that conclusion themselves and thus are trying to get in while Sony is still easily vulnerable.

I'm guessing they were probably saving too much money to care about providing good security for their servers.

If Sony dies, Sony games will split off between Xbox and Nintendo. In house devs will be bought out and profitrs will continue, after a period of adjustment, just as normal.
no they wont
it's sony's choice if they want to sell off their exclusives

this isnt the same situation as sega where they had to do that to stay afloat
Exclusives =/= developers
Though cutting their losses and salvaging a sizable amount of money from selling their exclusives would be a good idea as well.

I think the hackers r exposing sony for what it really is or rather what it's become: a company whose greed overshadows common sense. sony has been saying for years that protecting their customers is the number one thing in their minds, but these hacks have proven otherwise. the fact that customer information is so carelessly left out in the open is something sony should be held accountable for. and, if they don't change their business practices soon, I don't expect there to be around in ten years.

As the pessimistic poster I am, I generally see most cooperation fit that description: greedy, hypocrite, and backstabber. To them, we're just a mean of generating profit for their company.

I honestly think the hacking should now stop.

The reason why they might be hacked is not clear, to nobody. However, I think that it is done to teach Sony something about valuable security. I think the hackers wanted to show that it's that easy to get acces to peoples personal details. They actually forced Sony to improve the security of the PS3 system/ PSN in common. I think we cant really thank the hackers, but then again, we can, because our network has been improved.

Another reason could be a inside job, although its very unlikely. Mabey an employee got fired, and wanted to take some serious revenge, or mabey someone who's idea was stolen by sony or so...

not to the level of sony. sony admitted defeat by taking geohot to court. they knew they couldn't defeat hackers using their programming abilities but could using money. at least microsoft makes an effort to combat hackers using software-related means. sony is either too lazy or too stupid to do it themselves.

Not to mention there's one point that's shadier than everything else: Sony wanted to get the IP adresses and personal data (!) of those who viewed Geohot's PS3-hacking videos. I, too, did watch that video, even though I don't have a PS3, or any Sony gaming console and wouldn't buy one. Ever. Personal data is something that should NEVER be left in the hands of a profit-oriented company without consent, and viewing a video hardly qualifies as a crime that warrants such a radical step.

The reason they got hacked is that they targeted hackers for legal action, legit hackers too.

Sony might as well have painted a big target on its servers at this point in time.

Sony wanted to bully some kids around, now the adults have become involved, I do not expect this to end well for Sony, its probably not going to get better.

Sony could dig its way out of this mess by eating a lot of crow and dropping some of its more retarded cases, apologizing to the hackers they have harassed and essentially just improving its customer relations...

At this point in time I see Sony as one of the most anti consumer companies on the planet. How they could fall this far from the company they used to be I will never know. Please let it be known that while I say they are one of the most anti consumer companies on the planet I by no means think they are alone.

To me it would be greedy in a sense that Sony makes nearly every single electronic product (i'm not jealous!) and thanks to this neglects the security + quality.

So, it would be greedy + negligence.

Just stating my point though, no offense to fanboys

pretty much accept this theory but with the addition that people just feel that since security is so weak then lets see where it ends
i wonder if skidrow is impressed

I reckon Sony's just having a bad run with hackers at the moment because one group hacked them first. If they hadn't hacked Sony in the first place, then it is likely that no-one else would have tried to hack them either.

It is still to be debated as to whether it's Sony's fault or not for being hacked. I for one believe that it was a combination of their terrible security measures and the outraged response of consumers at the court case involving Geohot. But that's just my views.
