Hacking Soldering mod chip

I am making this post because I really want to mod my switch but got one on the Nintendo website in mid 2023. Which version should I get for my switch? I found v1 v2 and v3 options on ali express also I saw the v3 on one product so idk if it is a scam or not. But that is not the only question question, my question is: Is there anyway to install a modchip without ANY soldering? Just by using a screwdriver and anything that helps to put the modchip in the switch except for soldering. (idk if that's how you install it because I am not that good at tech related stuff but I know you have to flash it) So if there is a way please comment,

Hello,

The current modchip available needs some soldering to get the signals it needs to work. For the non OLED switches, there is minimal soldering, the CPU flex, but still pretty small points. The rest of the signals are intercepted from the eMMC connector.

If you want to save some money, prepare your switch so when you take it to a tech it's a matter of soldering only those points and you will finish the assembly. Any good cell phone repair shop should be able to do it and it should take a couple of minutes

Alright thanks! So pretty much just to make sure, if I bring it to a cellphone repair shop they should be able to install the mod chip into the switch in a couple of minutes? All I want is to do this like the easy way so pretty much no soldering except for someone else to do it. I was also gonna ask someone on the forum if they knew someone too if it had to be soldered (which it is) but now you told me I can send it to a repair shop. Thanks for telling me and please verify about what I have to do so I can mod my new switch.

All I want is to do this like the easy way so pretty much no soldering except for someone else to do it. Start by reading some modding guides.

And my suggestion based on your original post is that you should leave the whole console to someone that does the whole process.

If you dont have any experience to take something apart then dont do it on the switch.
Leave everything to someone else.
Without the right tools/experience/carefulness you can destroy stuff and then it will be expensive to fix.

This is on point. Know your limits, in my opinion, it's pretty easy to disassemble a switch but I've been playing with small electronics for a while. I have also broken an LCD ribbon connector ( I still have no idea how).

There are plenty of videos, guides and feel free to ask anything.

Alright thanks! I do have the experience to take stuff apart but with what you listed there is no way I can do it! Anyways I will go to a phone repair shop but I have one question. Will some not do it because of Nintendo not allowing you to mod your device?

What you should do if you don't want to waste your time visiting repair shops, is to call the local shops first, and ask if they'll install a modchip in a Switch. You will get a good feeling if they're experienced doing it, too, depending on their answers.

My advise would be to get a first generation Switch that is unpatched.
Those can be hacked with a jig and USB cable.

If you ask if there is a plug and play solution with a screwdriver, then installing a modchip isn't something for you.
All money you think you will save by trying it yourself, you will pay double that money for having a repair shop fix the mess you're likely going to make.
Installing modchips is highly skilled work where even the experts run into weird issues.

That’s what I did in the US but not all phone repair shops can do it

A lot of them are also scummy and will say they will/can when they don’t have the skills to do so. So be careful with that plan

I lost an old iPhone 8 this way years ago. Dude only had to replace the battery and somehow blew up the whole phone..whole shop was full of smoke and my phone was charrred to bits. Apparently they dropped a soldering iron on the battery?

I wish there was a soft-mod that is the ideal these days. I am surprised nobody came up with an exploit for that yet. Let's see what happens on the new system when released.

If you been in the console modding scene as long as some of us have i say the opposite, i am always suprised when a softmod is discloused.
History will tell you that modchips always been the way to go when you wanted to mod a console.

Softmods is just from generation ps3 and up and even then it usally started with modchips/dongels.
Wii is a great example of this.

And to be honest, it was one mistake from nvidia that lead to that the switch v1 was vulnerable to softmod. (Not Nintendos fault)

If that mistake wasn’t there, the only option for all switch versions would have been modchips. (With some exeptions, pegascape etc.)

No. It takes at least an hour, even with lots of experience. Your average cell phone repair shop will probably need around 3 hours.
