Its a open source port of classic RTS games including Red Alert, Command & Conquer, and Dune 2K. A lot of people don't like it because its not the original balance got a couple new units and all kinds of other small changes to try and bring things a little more up to date. Most people stick to Red Alert but C&C needs more players!

I always like it when projects have a truly old school experience, and the optimizations and improvements are optional, but I love the idea tbh

When you run a mod for the first time the game can automatically download the original game assets, or you can use the original game disks.

(mods = the term used here for games made within a greater engine, think RPG maker or something). Interesting twist -- we have seen asset recreation before (Wolf3d and Doom having fairly advanced takes, and that is ignoring things like the dark mod for thief) but it is rare.

Anyway I had missed it entirely so thanks for sharing, and apparently it does feature on https://osgameclones.com/ too. That said nobody I know was ever really into C&C (Dune II, Homeworld, Warhammer Dark Omen and Age of Empires if we were doing RTS. Did have a copy of Dune 2k but it never really made the rotation) and most people doing Dune related things tend to be about II (though the "original" seems to be enjoying a bit of a new fanbase and for more than the excellent score) and either slapping dosbox hard enough to work and then realising that decades of refinements on a formula they brought to the fore were actually good stuff so mods to find those).
