Gaming So Pokemon Platinum...

It seems each time the 'third wheel' of a generation (ie. Yellow, Crystal, Emerald and now Platinum) comes out, there's less and less incentive to buy the game and less and less new additions.

Ok, so perhaps we don't know everything about the game and what it adds quite yet but still...if you already own Diamond or Pearl, what really are they offering to make you shell out another load of cash? Hell, if you're someone who was waiting for a third, 'improved' version to the series then what's keeping you from buying Diamond or Pearl instead which would be that little bit cheaper by the time Platinum hits the shelves?

At least with Yellow it was something that bit different to Red and Blue. Same game essentially but a little different on the story side, different Pokemon, the whole Pikachu thing (the kind of Virtual Pet element), the fact that the game was more focussed around the anime and so on...new stuff to unlock etc. etc.

With Crystal it dipped, but you still had stuff like the battle tower, different 'mon to catch, battle animations, slightly different story added on with Suicune etc. and (for the Japanese) the mobile adapter deal.

Emerald dipped it again, but there was plenty of battle tower stuff if that was your thing and the whole Kyogre/Groudon/Rayquaza little side story...but pushing it for buying the game again.

And, to me at least based on what we know so far, Platinum has hit a new low. It's not going to be a bad game by any means (don't get me wrong - I loved Diamond and Pearl) but it's not going to be anything new, anything significantly different enough to warrant the price tag of a new game.

Sorry Nintendo...but I think I'll stick it out until the next game in the series. Or a G/S remake.

nobody knows for sure yet what they are going to add, maybe they'll add some very interesting features.

here are some changes

from blue,red original gameplay

yellow comes up with some pikachu moving around with you

silver and gold only changes better environment also now its colored

crystal same as silver and gold but now with moving sprites

ruby and saphire wow alot of changes on environment

emerald lol same as above they add moving sprites again

and for pearl and diamond haha 3d places

and now platinum?????big question i guess it will came out as a deleted or not worth to play!!!

the ugly thing is battle system is still the same...from 90's now its year 08 not so much changes to me

im pretty bored with it . i might give 2 stars for it

i opened my pearl again on my ds and hey guess when the first time i opened it, i only end up in the house and turned it off even my cousin told me today every pokemon game starts with prof. blah!!! his tired with it too then he turn off the game haha anyone agree with me?tired!itired!tired

you know why it always starts with the "prof.blah"? BECAUSE OF THE PEOPLE NEW TO THE GAME!!!!!! ffs, my cousin is 5 and he loves it, im 16 and i STILL love it, i've had literally evry game going for pokemon. i love the whole "needing to train to beat your opponents" idea. and we can already guess there is a slight change in the game because both dialga and palkia appears then giratina appears on the mountain. plus they have made modifications to the costumes of the characters so we already have known changes from just 2 scans.

I kind of already said that...what I was saying was based off what we already know. It just seems to be following a trend.

I'm sure that one pokemon isn't all they're going to add to the game, and you're right they might add some really cool features to warrant a third game in this generation.

But with it coming out this year, and the trend of 'third' games that's come about (with less interesting, cool features with each generation), I'll more than likely give this one a miss. The jury's not out for me yet, and I'll definitely watch this with interest...but I don't have high hopes.

How long it took me to write is irrelevant, don't you think?

And yeah, I do have a flashcart so to me, cost doesn't matter. But you're missing the overall point. Diamond and Pearl sales would show that most DS owners still go out and buy the big titles, and probably DON'T have flashcarts.

The point I was making wasn't in regards to me, or even to this community (since I know 90% of people here will have a flashcart and will just download rather than buy), but just DS owners/Pokemon fans in general.

Pokemon needs real time battles for the love of god
you can actually use your skills for the game instead of grinding
and yes there are enough buttons for attacks and stuf (at least if it's done as i had in mind)

-A B X Y [are for attacks (obvious)
-d-pad [for moving (duh)
-L [for jump or start flying
-R [for jump or start flying
-Touch Screen [w/e they want to use it for (maybe pause menu or using items during batle

It's still a almost unchanged, 15 year old RPG with menu based battles. Look at Final Fantasy. They evoled by adding more game elements, real-time elements and a battle system that isn't a menu. jeez.

The Battle System actually hanged quite a lot.
