hey guys i might b getting a PSP 4 Christmas and i was wondering how or wht i can do in chipping terms. so.

a)is paying a modchip store 50 dollars for custom fimrware worth it?

b)is there a way to install firmware without paying them?

c)how do u put games on it ? do u do it through some blank UMD? Or use a micro sd like a ds flashcart?

First of all, Which PSP are you after?
Putting custom firmware onto a PSP is very easy if you follow instructions.
Also you will need a Sony Memory Stick to run games.

modchips exist, but i dont see the point, since it is much easier to just flash a custom firmware.

that, and they only work on psp's that are normally fully hackable, they dont work on the late 2000s or 3000s

the only real benefit to having a modchip installed is that you can have custom firmware on the chip, and still have your psp set to ofw. you can decide which to boot to when you turn it on

A 8gb Sony Memory Stick Duo will do, Games vary from 100mbs to 1.7gb.

The Format "backups" will be in is either ISO or CSO (Compressed ISO)
Both work but CSOs are slower than ISO due to uncompressing.

Okay Guys thanx for your help i am Getting A PSP 1000 Model for Christmas and have found a cheap pandora battery from techsick .quick quesions to end of with my knowledge of this.


1)man the guides are the easiest items to follow yet thnx so much!

2)on average if i did get the 8gb sony card how big is the average iso?

3)can i use the magic stick with games and saves or would i need to reformat?.

4)i have seen some games(eg.Toy Story 3)that claim to be patched do these work and with the new firmwares like 5.50 do the games work unpatched? and what are the patches that are applied?

5)how does the psp detect the games like in what format do in need to put them? a seperate folder with the iso contained?one big folder called GAME With all .isos inside?

6)how do i setup a PS1 Emulator to run games like PS1 Toy Story?

7)how do i compress games into PS1 Format?

8)what do i do in detailed explanation to setup the likes of a Ninteno 64 Emulator?Or A Gamecube Emulator?

8 Gigabytes will do as games are normally around 750mbs

Once you get the memory stick, you must reformat it with the Sony Firmware. Its in the System Settings. It will reformat the memory card and place folders in the memory card. From there you just place games into the ISO folder and etc.

New games require 6.20 Firmware to run, and because we only have Custom Firmware 5.00m33 and 5.50GEN we rely on patches or plugins to run new games. If a game says "Patched", it normally means it has the patch to run 6.20 Firmware games.

The PSP will detect all games in the ISO folder and the PSP/GAME Folder

You will need to learn about PS1 Conversion to .eboot but it is easy to do. Basically you convert the disc into a ISO then use software to convert the ISO into a PSP compatible file (.eboot).

There are no Gamecube emulators but there is a N64 emulator. It isn't perfect but does alright on some games. It is called Daedalus X64, a simple google search will explain it.
