Hello Gbatemp, I have just gotten a Flash 2 Advance, and I want to take advantage of its RTC and play Pokemon Silver on it using Goomba, or Goomba Color, the GBC emulator for GBA.

Problem is I can't seem to get it working. I confirmed the Flash 2 Advance battery is good because it keeps my saves and it runs Pokemon Emerald's RTC fine. I am trying to figure out why Goomba is not working. I heard the latest version of Goomba Color supports RTC for the carts that have it, but it is not working... >_>

Maybe I somehow have the wrong version? Anybody want to help me out and link me the the Goomba with RTC? and not the FAKE RTC, that runs by FPS hack, please. I have that and don't want.

Also, can the Flash 2 Advance battery be "recharged" when charging the GBA SP like how the M3 Expansion and EZ Flash 3 in 1 can? Or will I HAVE to replace the battery?

Thanks for your time, guys.

You heard wrong, you cannot recharge the battery in the 3in1.

Oh. Well, I will keep that in mind when the battery dies.

Does that mean that the Flash 2 Advance Ultra DOES recharge, though?

I am surprised that nobody has answered my question yet lol. Usually pretty fast. I guess GBA experts are hard to come by nowadays.

The RTC in a GBC is not the same as the RTC in a GBA. Goomba was written generically to run on gba flashcarts, the majority of which didn't have RTC at the time.

On gba flashcarts, any CR-XXXX is NOT rechargable.
On gba flashcarts, any VL-XXXX are rechargable.

Sorry to sound like a newb, but what exactly does that mean?

And so does that mean that Goomba will work on my 3 in 1 with RTC?

The RTC is a hardware clock chip. The RTC in the GBC and GBA used different voltages, not compatible for one. Two, the 3in1 doesn't have RTC.

goomba ran like any other gba rom. As long as you didn't exceede the 32MB rom size limit.

gba RTC aware goomba builds were only for certain gba flashcarts only and only worked on certain firmware builds only. So the latests and greatest didn't always apply.

I think he was asking what CR-XXXX and VL-XXXX mean.

@Schlupi: if that was indeed what you were asking about, it refers to the battery type in your flash cart. CR type not being rechargeable and VL being rechargeable.

Oh ok. How would I know which one I have? could I replace a CR with a VL on the the flashcart?

If you open up the cartridge it should have it's 'type' written on the battery.

Like so:

Note the CR2032

As for replacing, I don't think so...

Ok. Cool. I don't know how to open a F2A Ultra... no screw or anything... >_>

Ok. I think I know everything I need to now. Thanks, guys.

I emailed back and forth with the Dev awhile ago... Goomba supports RTC ONLY if the flash card does.

Scratch that... There is code that transfers the flash cartridge's Real Time Clock to the emulated cartridge's clock, but it only works if you have a RTC in your flash cartridge. There is no code to tick the timer forward for flash cartidges with no RTC, and it looks like there is no way to have the game set the clock. I haven't touched any of the clock code since the last time Flubba worked on it.

The thing is, not all flash cart RTCs are made equal. The X-rom and Flash2Advance Ultra work similarly, for instance, but I don't know if that's different than the F2A one, which ones Goomba supports, etc.
