What games for the Sega Master System and gamegear are very reccomendable?

Good question, I wanna try this out too but I have no clue what games to try. Any reccomendations?
The only games for GameGear I ever found really enjoyable were the Sonic games. 1,2 and Chaos. I used to have Dynamite Headdy for GG too when I was younger

it was sort of fun... Oh, and I used to be addicted to the Tail Spin game for GG, yet I don't really think its a very good game.

GameGear on GBA? Dude, when did that happen??!!! Excellent stuff
biggrin.gif

Maybe I can actually complete Sonic 2 now; it was my Mum's GameGear and she banned me from using it without supervision when she caught me smashing the D-pad trying to do the hangglider level.

You have to hit the L button fast dammit it's not my fault they made it that way and the system's designed to take that kind of beating!!! And we had some dodgy solitaire poker game on there; that's the only reason I know the legal hands in a game of poker, lol

It's been around for ages and is a really nice emulator! Almost perfect speeds and really high compatibility.

Another SMS/GG emu - Dr.SMS is good too.

How I hated Sonic 2 on the Game Gear... That was one of the toughest and unforgiving games I've ever played.
The first level boss - that pincer-like creature thing. HOW BLOODY difficult was that?
wtf.gif

That hang glider level... I don't think I ever got past that stage. What with the horrible controls and the Game Gears tiny screen which made it impossible to see what you were aiming for...

^ Ya, I don't think I have ever beaten the first boss in Sonic 2
frown.gif
. It was ridiculous. Thank god for the all level select cheat code. Most of the other bosses were great.

There was a knack to the Pincer guy

But yeah, even when you'd got the hang of doing it he was still a bit of a bastard

On the topic of good games I remember losing hours to a little puzzler called "Pengo". Can't for the life of me remember what it was though...

"Psychic World" was pretty good as well, but a COMPLETE BASTARD; that second boss was just impossible. (Hm, I'm sensing a theme here...

Pengo was awesome!

Pengo vs. the Sno-bees!

What a great game, you could push the blocks of ice around to crush enemies and even push the maze border to make it wobble and knock out enemies.

That's it... I have to flash that with this emu right now.

SMSAdvance for GBA - SMS EMU
MSXAdvance for GBA - MSX EMU
Cologne for GBA - COLECO EMU
Goomba for GBA - GAMEBOY EMU
PocketNES for GBA - NES EMU
SNESAdvance for GBA - SNES EMU
Arcade emulators for GBA - NUMEROUS EMU's

there are several more emulators for those interested in them.
It's weird to focus only on the sms, and ignore the rest...
because most have been updated recently outside of
PNES and SNES..

Murdoc emu kicks ass, come near me I'll toss my balls at you
or drop an apple on j00r head..

Man, I don't know how long I spent playing that game. Still have the game sitting in the game gear right beside me. Probably the hardest game I've ever played except for Ninja Gaiden for Xbox.

Anybody looking for an easier version of the game should play the Master System version. I didn't play it all the way through but it was sigificantly easier and I think it also ran faster.

Sega Master System rocks, besides my Atari 2600, it was the first console I owned (never had a NES, Sega was infinitely more popular down here) with Sonic the Hedgehog built in. It was the first platform game I ever finished.

If you are going to use this emulator, use the SMS roms rather than the GG ones, as the SMS has a bigger screen, better control, and games usually have better sprites than their GG counterparts.

As for recommendations:
Sonic (easily the best SMS game)
Sonic 2
Alex the Kidd in Miracle World (some of the other Alex Kidd games are good as well)
Wonderboy (and its sequels)
Ghouls and Ghosts was ok back in the day (but extremely hard), but having played it again recently, I'm not so sure now

...And there's more but I can't remember
