I got around to watching the end of series 6 today and I thought I would see if any of my fellow 'tempers still watched it and what they thought.

Personally I adored the satirical/absurdist/black comedy framing that made up the first two series and to a lesser extent the third and fourth but perhaps not unjustifiably* the writers decided to amp the drama up at the cost of the said satire for this "generation" (those unaware every two series a complete new cast gets introduced) which did not drop it down to watching chore level but did not compel me to sit in front of the TV to catch first airing. Equally despite being fairly accurate the coked up whining entitlement stuff that can probably describe several characters lacked the charm of the others for me.

*ratings went back up after a slip that was series 5 apparently.

Thoughts of others on this series/generation? Coming back for any more (supposedly the seventh is to be the final one and will feature members of previous generations) but I heard the same about this one.

As an American, Skins is "that MTV show people got worked up about until it got cancelled."

I've heard good things about the British original, but all the promos for the US version made it out to be exclusively focused on the sex lives of the "kids these days". Is it (UK or US) worth checking out?

Uk version is the best. I have to say my favorite characters from this series had to be alo and rich. I heard from others that they are doing 2 more series and then retiring skins. Although it could be wrong.

I never got around to checking the US version out mainly as I heard it was awful from a perspective of fans of the original (although with it being an US MTV series* I was not expecting anything) and was rather pared back so as to avoid having the FTC appear (a company/force not known for having the most permissive of views with regards to non "family friendly" material). As for whether you should check out the UK series normally I would say get the first couple of episodes of the first series and give it a go but thinking about it there were some great little shorts. Alas channel 4 (the people that commissioned it) have blocked much of the UK side of things and I am far too lazy to get my US youtube capable proxy or VNC in gear so I can not be sure what you will be able to see but going blind

If not search for skins careers office- hopefully there will be something on one of the other video sites.

*not that European MTV has really done much better and the likes of Jackass and dirty sanchez aside the only show of any real quality across the entire company I can think of was top buzzer and maybe a passing not to some of their animated series.
