No in fact they should bring Opera Mini (proxy, less data usage, faster download and rendering) to DSi.
Oh and Opera Mini and Mobile for phones is getting flash support

I dont know.
who uses their television for videogames?
who browses the web on a mobile phone with a 2 inch screen?
same resson we use ds for web browsing
practicallity

Wow, didn't know there were so many IE haters

I still prefer it over the others.

Honestly, who uses their DS for web browsing anyway?
I know I have done before.

There was also using my DSi here when my computer was being repaired.
(The Wii too on a couple of occasions during the computer's downtime; typing with the on-screen keyboard and a remote was torturous)

Besides, 3DS is a new system, and with upgraded specs comes a hopefully better browsing experience.

However "speed" doesn't matter that much because as you see, different people see it differently. For example changing a firefox setting to make it start painting data to the screen sooner can make people think that it's loading pages faster even though it's doing it as the same speed it was before. In addition UI responsiveness plays a big part.

You all need to focus on the actual specs for a portable browser.

Firefox specifically has a mobile version.

Previously Opera was the only browser with a mobile version that was properly usable, but now firefox has one, and other suites are following, so we're not sure what Nintendo will choose.

since it doesnt come till the end of may, im sure one is being developed but who says it would be propietary html5
that would rock this world
or maybe firefox 3ds would be awwesome too since firefox is known for its plugin ability
heres my estimate though
its either opera since they have worked on 2 consoles with them
or its their own browser
but i hope flash or html5 is a feature

You can see at 1:20 it looks different from the DSi version, and nothing like Opera Mini.

The amount of FUD in this thread really amazes me

Firstable, the PC version of Opera is really great and polished browser. One of the fastest available, beats Chrome in some benchmarks, consumes much less memory than Firefox. Almost no security holes ("continued use of Opera Browser may leave security holes" - WTF ?). Most of functionality you'll ever need is there out of the box, so you don't need an arsenal of plugins. Opera had tabbed browsing before Firefox, IE and Safari. I use it every day and don't even enable the "mask as Internet Explorer" - everything works perfectly.

Having said that, the mobile Opera Mini is a completely different application. Compared to iPhone's Safari, it is less polished, but faster. So why was it such a painful experience on DS/DSi ? Simply because the hardware was not up to the task. Even with the most optimized software, you cannot expect a 66 (133) MHz processor and tiny amount of slow memory to handle Web 2.0, rich media, JavaScript, CSS etc. in a fantastic way.

For Youtube, I think the only option is to provide a separate application. Having to run web browser and decode video embedded in a Flash file at the same time will probably be too much even for 3DS. Which is not necessarily bad; a new interface, customized especially for 3DS would bring better user experience. It's like having a dedicated Facebook client on some smartphones - it's better than browsing a giant webpage meant to be displayed on desktop computer's 20" LCD screen... that said, I doubt it will happen. If Nintendo wasn't keen on paying MP3 royalties, will they pay H.264 royalties in order to watch YouTube ? I highly doubt it.

They should just Make their own Browser
TOns of people make DS Browsers(homebrew and Game maker 8 Browsers (Plus Real Coding)
Just try opening Facebook or Gmail with these homebrew browsers ;(

I'll just say the browser as is is more or less functional but has some glaring holes that are just downright disgusting in this day and age. They need to go back and make some more updates at Opera HQ and get an update out there.
WTF ?

Wasn't DSi Browser in fact a custom version of Opera Mini ?

Well, the GUI is always easy to change (Opera supports skins). But maybe Nintendo indeed went with another solution, who knows.

To make it easier to see than this video
heres a pic

anyone can see that it is a self made browser
unless opera made one just for 3ds that is different
or whatever

I'm pretty sure that if you're going to developing software for a platform like Nintendo's and you're getting paid to do it you might actually take the time to customize it according to Nintendo's specifications.

I mean it is what Opera's getting paid for.

h264 is free to watch, but not to encode.
The viewer doesn't pay, only the encoder.

Yeah, can be, guess we'll know around May.

Yeah, maybe I'd like firefox or something better if I was drinking guinness and my leprechaun told me it was faster.
lol, yeah.
But I just meant your Internet infrastructure isn't so great.

Never used mobile opera much (or normal opera either really) although i dont like the ios version (no retina support

I don't care what they use, i just wish they would support HTML5 on the DSi so i can watch vid.

Otherwise maybe a SCDS2 browser that could do it since i think the CPU is better than the DSi one. But that aint up to Nintendo

On my PC i use Chrome and Firefox
