hi guys,

so I'm doing my research on this stuff and i came across this whole issue of "bricking" the DS with malicious programs.

I only plan on putting 2 things on the DS.... CycloDS firmware updates and DS roms.

is there any way to scan these for bricking programs?

otherwise, how do you know if a rom or firmware update is going to brick your DS?!

also, I'm assuming that if the roms/firmware passes a virusscan that it cannot harm one's PC - correct?

thanks a lot...

The infamous DS brickers have pretty much disappeared - it's been 3 years.
And if you have a DS Lite or FlashMe (with a cart other than a CycloDS Evolution), then you should be okay.
But I still wish I had a copy of one of the DS brickers. For developmental purposes only

-"if you have a DS Lite or FlashMe (with a cart other than a CycloDS Evolution), then you should be okay."

A) can you clarify this? I plan to get a DS Lite... how does that protect from bricking? or did you mean that the NON-Cyclo cards are what protect from bricking?

B) I was looking into FlashMe, but it looks like you have to open up your DS to install that, correct? there is no way I would do that =P

C) can anyone else confirm that most PC anti-virus can scan roms/firmware for bricking programs?

D) can anyone else confirm that NDSTokyoTrim scans roms (and firmware?) for bricking programs?

EDIT: can someone post a link to NDSTokyoTrim? or does that not allowed? (it certainly isn't a ROM so it should be ok, right? =P )

1) Flash cards cannot protect against bricking.
2) You only have to remove the battery cover, which requires a small philips head screw driver
3) I'm having one hell of a time finding the programs
4) It has the feature built-in

techsuki.net is where you will find the download.

DS Lites have the vital parts of the firmware protected.
FlashMe just requires you to open the battery cover, but in your case it's pointless unless you get an EZFlash 3-in-1 Expansion pack.
Yes.
I don't know.

Scds1 actually includes a detector for the brickers available.
I've never heard of that feature
It's part of the reason for slow loading times of apps and games on the SCDS1. The other part being that they opted to use a highly hacked version of moonshell rather than a lean and mean proprietary shell.

Hey I want brickers! For developmental purposes only.
No I'm serious. I can use them to get a DS Lite.

@TDK:
You can flash DS homebrew to an EZFlash 3-in-1, so FlashMe will work from there.
When recovering, you can't run FlashMe's recovery code with a CycloDS Evolution.

Find 'em yourself, I won't participate in trying to bricking a DS.

Why would I release them? Everyone here is smart enough to know that it's BAD
But I can "brick" my DS, get a DS Lite, and unbrick my DS.
