The best portable SNES experience I've had is on my PSP, and even that's not perfect.

No, but certainly much better than the DS. I have mine tweeked to where everything I have thrown at it is playable... but far from perfect on FX chip games.

SNES emulation on my Wii is amazing. Maybe even better than the real thing. But despite that, I still have two SNES consoles. (Among other things.)

But I'm kind of a collector. If you're only going for the gaming aspect of it, don't bother.

I got both mine at thrift shops for a great deal less than you would pay for this one. And they had games (Mostly old sports games :/)

Sadly I can't find any other places like that, and people I've asked keep directing me to PnT and DR. I have a few friends with old systems ranging from Atari to Genesis to N64, but they're also collectors. :\

There are no decent places to get these things where I am... I agree with everyone else that $40 is too much for a SNES with no games.
I want some more old consoles, I have a friend who has an NES but he's unlikely to sell so I'll have to figure that out myself, an Atari 2600 would be cool (but likely expensive) and I have a SNES (PAL so Super Famicon styling. Looks better in my opinion) but I only have 4 games for it, Super Mario World, Mario Kart, Lemmings and Super Star Wars (that game is a clusterfuck of enemies and NO SAVING!) If I want these things I'll just have to get off eBay.

I say get it. As a collector myself, I think it's a pretty good deal (Then again, I got an N64 with hookups and a controller for $20, as well as an Atari 2600 with hookups, 2 controllers, and 4 games for $20). I got my SNES for free at a bargain shop because I know the owner, but that's still a really good deal considering it's one of the more rare retro systems.

You'll always have emulators.

I realize this is the easiest way, but there is something I find refreshing about playing games I own versus games that I have downloaded. Especially since this is a DS forum, and all of the DS SNES Emulation options blow. >.>
Yeah... Theres nothing quite like blowing into your cart repeated times and reset your SNES until the game works (Yes it happens on SNES too, not just NES)

I remember a friend of mine swapping a SNES with 2 controllers and 1 game for a 6 pack of beer about 10 years ago...

Kick him in the groin. Tell him it is from me.

Well today is my lucky day. A friend just sold me his SNES and Genesis, along with 8 games, for $40.

FINALLY!
Lucky you!

As for everyone else, is a SNES really that rare? A simple eBay search has turned up quite a few for me. I own one so I'm not bothered but I've had more trouble finding decent NES or Atari 2600 auctions

Should explain that it was my friend who ended up with the SNES. The guy he was swapping it with thought it was broken because the game wouldn;t come out (the power switch was on)

But then he still went ahead with the swap when we pointed out it worked fine.

Although the same friend sold me a NES with 6 games and two controllers for £10 around when the N24 came out.

What games did you get with the system, sounds like a good deal.

I found my SNES on ebay for around $50. It came with a Super Gameboy, Game Genie, SNES Advantage arcade controller, a tubro controller, a OEM controller. A steal I'd say!

After that I looked up some broken SNES'es. Found one for $0.99 w/ $4 shipping. Picked that up and found it just had a dirty connector. 20 mins later I had it up and running! Nice deal for a backup unit!

I now have quite a collection of the top games. But can't really figure the ones I want next. Don't have a full listing of what I have or else I'd post it
