PS1/2 Saving Problem

Ok, I recently bought Swap Magic and I have it. I closed up the three sensors the PS2 has and I only managed to damage the Eject/Power on button which I was able to fix with some tape. I blocked the sensors and closed the PS2 and I was able to get the disc to spin successfully. I booted up a backup of Sonic Riders Zero Gravity and it works fine but when it comes time to save, it sometimes doesn't save. Not only that, when I successfully save, turn it off, then turn it back on, my save file is corrupted and I have to start over. Whats the problem?

It might be a problem with the memory card itself. Did you try reformatting it?
